What you'll be doing
The Security Architect is responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing testing of security controls for Virgin Australia's IT systems. With a thorough understanding of the latest security standards and technologies, the Security Architect works with the architecture community at VA to develop Security Architecture standards and patterns. Working through architecture and IT governance processes, the Security Architect also ensures that security standards and patterns are incorporated into the design and build of IT systems.
- Design the Security Architecture for new system implementations, aligned to VA's standards and practices
- Ensure security controls are chosen to protect customer information and operational performance
- Develop and maintain Security Architecture patterns and standards
- Participate throughout the System Development Life Cycle to identify potential security threats and weaknesses in the design/development of the IT systems
- Anticipate the security requirements for the initiatives on the IT Strategic roadmap, identify gaps and establish plans to address those deficiencies
- Maintain 2-3 year roadmaps to evolve VA's security products and security patterns
- Participate in post-incident reviews to address deficiencies in existing security patterns & standards
- Review existing security controls in high-risk systems and key processes to identify improvements
- Design RBAC for systems' access, based on the least-privilege principle
- Actively seek and maintain productive relationships with relevant business stakeholders to ensure internal and external customer centricity
- Actively review customer and stakeholder feedback to ensure solutions and strategies deliver required outcomes
- Collaborate with our architecture community to raise maturity of VA's IT capabilities
- Bachelors or Masters' qualifications in Computer Science, engineering or related discipline, or equivalent background
- 3+ years experience in information security and / or IT risk management with a focus on implementing security controls
- Good understanding of security protocols and standard controls
- Experience in designing or implementing single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, identity management or role-based access controls
- Experience with risk-based assessment of potential security weaknesses
- Ability to interact with a broad cross-section of stakeholders to explain and promote security measures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- An innovative mindset to explore alternative options and the development of fit-for-purpose solutions
- Experience with the security design for public cloud solutions, leveraging native services where appropriate
