Job description

We provide a unique opportunity for you to join with the City of Parramatta in setting a new benchmark for customer service delivery excellence for our community while working as part of a dynamic team in an iconic, smart, environmentally sensitive, architecturally designed building that will be the jewel of Parramatta Square. PHIVE is a 7-day operation, offering a wide range of unique experiences to everyone who lives, works, studies, visits and plays in our City. PHIVE sets a new benchmark in unique and memorable experiences for all who live, work, or visit City of Parramatta.

We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. We are committed to implementing child safe practices to create an environment where children feel safe and included. We screen candidates to ensure their suitability to work with children, this includes conducting national police checks, working with children checks, and thorough reference checks. 
 

About the role

Located at PHIVE, the Council owned and operated, flagship community, cultural and civic facility, the Security Concierge will work as part of a team and is responsible for delivering high quality day to day security and safety services, plans and programs and using every customer interaction as an opportunity to build positive connections with the City of Parramatta. Security also is responsible to Open and close the building so starting and finishing time will differ from the building opening and closing times.

Hours vary between 8am and 11pm depending on events. Operating hours are Monday-Thursday 9am till 8pm and Friday-Sunday 9am-5pm.

On a daily basis you will:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with PHIVE's Competencies Framework.
  • Monitor arrivals for safety; ensure building security during opening/closing.
  • Provide security services, alert authorities as per policy for safety issues.
  • Respond to emergencies, coordinate with external agencies, and report incidents.
  • Handle incidents, duress alarms, and complaints following Council policies.
  • Maintain surveillance for sufficient security coverage.
  • Manage lost property efficiently; address customer inquiries promptly.
  • Enforce processes for safety and security compliance.
  • Control access for authorised visitors and contractors and maintain tidiness in common areas.
  • Assist with loading dock operations for efficiency and safety.


 
About You

You are flexible, with the ability to adapt to a changing and sometimes uncertain environment. In return, we’ll give you the autonomy to independently assess priorities and make decisions around how to structure your workload. You have good collaboration skills and have experience as working of part of a team.

You possess a current motor vehicle driver license and willingness to work outside normal working hours and travel on occasion.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in security operations or a related discipline; or relevant demonstrable experience.
  • Have or must be able to obtain an NSW 1A Security Licence
  • Must have a current Working with Children Check
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Senior First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate within 3 months of commencement.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills, with exceptional ability to deliver exceptional experiences.
  • Well-developed conflict resolution skills, with a focus on de-escalation and win-win outcomes.
  • High attention to detail, ability to quickly process visual and verbal information to efficiently risk manage matters in high-risk situations.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate, negotiate, build relationships and influence others with an engaging approach and technique.
  • Well- developed planning, organisation and time management skills, including the ability to meet tight deadlines and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-developed decision-making ability, including confidence in working with leaders to resolve high priority, and often sensitive and complex issues and conflict.

Experience

  • Operational security service experience in a customer-centric environment, with a proven track record of achieving objectives.
  • Experience in delivering security and customer services to diverse stakeholders in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to the designated area and the ability to practically apply this knowledge.
  • Computer literacy to enable accurate data entry, recording of information and experience with a variety of software and security applications.

We are offering an attractive casual hourly rate from $43.26 (inclusive of 25% casual loading) plus 11% superannuation.

The successful candidate is required to be vaccinated (at least 2 doses of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine) in accordance with Council's vaccination policy. Candidates may submit a medical contraindication for Council's consideration.

This position requires the preferred candidate to undergo a Criminal History Records check. A criminal history does not necessarily disqualify a prospective candidate from selection.  

This position requires the preferred candidate to undertake a Pre-Employment Medical Check, which also includes a Drug and Alcohol test.
