Job DetailsJob Title: Security Training InstructorEmployment Type: OngoingClassification: Parliamentary Service Level 5Closing Date: 11:30pm Friday, 7 June 2024Contact: Ben de Kruiff, (02) 6277 2840, benjamin.dekruiff@aph.gov.auThe OpportunityThe Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 5 Security Training Instructor within the Security Operations Branch, in the Security Division.Security Division is responsible for broad security functions that support the business of DPS protective security including security planning, capability, risk, policy and reporting. The Division works with many different Australian Parliament House (APH) stakeholders, including the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Department of the House of Representatives, the Department of the Senate, the Ministerial Wing Support, and other entities within the Parliamentary precincts.The Security Training Instructors are within the Security Operations Branch. As a Security Training Instructor you will be responsible for the safety, facilitation, assessment, and remediation of core skills training provided to the Parliamentary Security Service (PSS).In support of the Training Team, you will provide, contemporary facilitation through modern training methodologies, and assess competency within an adult learning environment.Who we are looking forOur ideal candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in delivery of practical Security Training measures
  • Ability to research, develop and implement a range of contemporary training methods for an adult learning environment.
  • Capacity to effectively communicate to a variety of internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for improving delivery of PSS training packages.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and provide high quality written documents.
Job Specific Requirements:If you are successful, you will be required to:
  • Obtain and maintain a First Aid Certificate.
  • Obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.
  • Complete an intensive training program, including Operational Safety Training, to a satisfactory standard.
  • Complete annual refresher training on operational safety and first response emergency procedures.
You may also be required to complete a fitness test. To pass the fitness test, you must be able to:
  • Do a cardio test.
  • Do 10 pushups.
  • Do 20 sit ups.
  • Drag a 50kg dummy for 20m.
  • Hand grip test.
Highly Desirable:
  • Certificate IV or above in Training & Assessment or the ability to obtain is highly desirable.

The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:1. Develop comprehensive reports, documents, and training curriculum for Parliamentary Security Service with a strong understanding of associated policies and procedures.2. Assist and maintain training records and other associated administrative functions with training compliance, which will inform executives in their decision making.3. Deliver training and assess competence to build and maintain the skillset of the Parliamentary Security Service4. Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships with stakeholders with a focus on coordination of operational Security Training to support the function of the building and its stakeholders.5. SalaryCurrently, the salary range for this position is $86,137 - $92,412 per annum.Conditions of EmploymentEmployment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
  • Australian citizenship - to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • Security clearance and character clearance - the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
  • Health assessment - a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
