Position overview:

The Division of Surgery is responsible for delivering inpatient and outpatients surgical services and prevention and treatment dental health programs for children, targeted youth and adults of the ACT and surrounding region. The Division includes Surgical Bookings and Pre-Admission Clinic, Anaesthesia, Pain Management Unit, Operating Theatres, Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit and Admissions / Extended Day Surgery Unit, specialist surgical ward areas, medical and nursing Outpatient services, Shock Trauma Service, Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit and the ACT Dental Health Program.

The Peri-Operative Unit consists of a Day of Surgery Admissions (DOSA) Unit, 13 Operating Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialities, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and a 12 bed Extended Day Surgery Unit (EDSU) together with several out of areas procedural/invasive specialty areas.

A Registered Nurse with advanced nursing practice skills in the field of Anaesthetic Nursing is required to provide high level support consistently and competently to perioperative patients.

Anaesthetic RN2 reports directly to the Anaesthetic CNC and joins the nursing leadership team. This position is responsible, in collaboration with the other Anaesthetic RN2, supporting Anaesthetic nursing team to provide evidence-based nursing care to perioperative patients.

Duties:

  • The RNL2 must demonstrate a higher level of skill and the ability to perform a more demanding role covering the domains including clinical care, leadership, education, quality, safety and communication. Under limited direction of the Clinical Nurse Consultant you will perform the following duties
  • Demonstrate professional practice as evidence by adhering to AHPRA professional standards, Code of Ethics for Nurses in Australia, ACORN standards and relevant legislative requirements, policy and procedures
  • Support the nursing team to provide comprehensive direct patient focused care using evidence-based practice, in accordance with primary health care principles and practices, CHS Policies and Clinical guidelines and the values of CHS
  • Act as a valued member of the inter-disciplinary team to provide exceptional patient care by actively contributing to team processes and practices
  • Provide leadership and promote a commitment to high quality customer service principles, practices, and attributes
  • Performing in the role of theatre team leader, work closely with patient flow, team leader from other area of perioperative unit to manage the emergency booking and flow
  • Foster a learning environment through clinical presentations to support the nursing team with their professional development and maintaining own professional learning and continuous professional development and providing supervision and teaching
  • Participate in and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement
  • Participate in managing and maintaining equipment and supplies under the direction of the perioperative Resource manager. Provides education to Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Medical Staff and Auxiliary Staff on the use, cleaning and maintenance of equipment as required
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

  • Eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • 5 years’ experience working in Anaesthetic RN position desirable.
  • Relevant Tertiary Nursing qualifications.
  • The successful applicant will be rostered on a 7 day rotating roster which will include weekends and public holidays. The applicant will need to be rostered to work morning, evening and night shift.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
