Senior Approvals/Permitting ConsultantMine Closure (Perth, WA)

ERM is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Environmental Approvals Consultant to join our growing Sustainable Mining Team in the Perth Office. This is a permanent, full-time position providing an opportunity to work in a leading international consultancy firm on a range of multidisciplinary projects across various sectors (e.g., mining, energy, renewables, transport, development/infrastructure) in Australia and internationally.

The ideal candidate would have the right balance of knowledge relating to regulatory frameworks and approvals processes within a WA and broader Australian context, technical expertise across various environmental and social disciplines, leadership, and project management skills. Specific expertise in Mine Closure planning and rehabilitation is desirable.

We are recruiting for several different roles to support our Sustainable Mining Team on various approvals, Mine Closure and rehabilitation projects.

You will be part of a vibrant and inclusive technical team responsible for project implementation and critical decision making to ensure successful Mine Closure project delivery, on mining sites largely within WA.

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental approvals, permitting, legislative requirements, governance;

  • Managing and driving the delivery of closure and rehabilitation studies;

  • Compliance and auditing.

Responsibilities:

You will be required to lead and/or support a wide variety of projects related to capital project development, environmental Approvals/Permitting and mine rehabilitation and closure planning, as well as the development of associated management plans.

  • Providing approvals reviews, strategic advice and identification of approvals triggers and pathways, as well as mitigation of approvals risks

  • Providing technical expertise and strategic direction for the planning, execution, and monitoring of mine site rehabilitation and closure activities

  • Stakeholder consultation and governmental engagement relating to project approvals

  • Oversight, quality control and recording of accurate high-quality data for reporting

  • Collaborating with other ERM national and global practitioners to execute projects. Participate on teams composed of multi-disciplinary professionals from multiple offices around the global ERM organisation.

  • Mentoring junior-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets including technical skills, project experience and general core consulting skills.

  • Contributing to proposal development, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates in accordance with ERM’s policies and processes.

  • Directing and monitoring project management activities related to projects, including task delegation and direction, subcontractor management, health & safety protocol management, monitoring of commercial performance, quality review of deliverables and interaction with clients.

  • Working with other global ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients to expand ERM’s profile and market share in the global market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development support).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Environmental Science, Environmental Management and/ or Planning, or Engineering

  • 10+ years of relevant mining industry and/or other relevant sector experience. Consulting experience and knowledge of Mine Closure planning, assessment and design is highly desirable.

  • Extensive knowledge of industry best practice and regulatory requirements, standards and guidelines.

  • Auditing and compliance experience is advantageous.

  • Business development experience and client relationships.

  • Excellent technical writing, communication, strategic thinking and people skills.

  • Project management skills (e.g. Development of work plans, budgets, schedules, and project controls).
