Job description

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) lead the sustainable development of Western Australia’s regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. In everything we do, we take an approach to protect, grow and innovate WA’s economy, community and environment.About the opportunityWe currently have one (1) permanent position available for immediate filling.As a Senior Biosecurity Officer, you will play a vital role in leading a team of WA animal Biosecurity Officers across agricultural regions, to promote sound biosecurity practices in the livestock industry to reduce the risk of exotic disease incursions, enable traceability of livestock movements and carry out control programs for reportable livestock diseases and residues. You will lead a team of biosecurity operational specialists, and you will assist in developing and implementing biosecurity protocols in line with the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 (BAMA). You will work with internal and external stakeholders to assess risks, devise strategies and ensure education and compliance with activities under the BAMA are met.We are looking for individuals with:

  • a highly developed knowledge of agricultural industries and supply chain, preferably with livestock experience;
  • excellent communication skills and an ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders;
  • a keen interest in preferably knowledge of biosecurity;
  • the ability to collaborate with government agencies, research institutions and industry stakeholders;
  • excellent leadership skills.
