About the Role:
With increased statutory obligations in recent years, we are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and team focused Senior Building Surveyor Assistant to join our growing team. We are offering a genuine opportunity for the right person to step into this exciting position, which will play a critical role in assisting the Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) and the Deputy Municipal Building (DMBS) in the long-term management of combustible cladding matters and all high-end Building Surveying / Regulatory matters.
Work across significantly diverse building stock from bespoke homes to high-end multi-million dollar properties, multistorey apartment building, institutional and commercial buildings.Whilst Council currently provides a limited building permit service this is likely to increase in line with the State Governments Framework for Building Regulatory Reform and will deliver greater opportunities for you over time.
Duties:
Under the supervision of the MBS and DMBS:
Assist with the auditing, assessment, enforcement, reporting and resolution of buildings constructed with combustible cladding
Assessment and enforcement relating to Essentially Safety Measures (ESMs)
Consultation and engagement with key external and internal stakeholders
Assessments on construction / building related matters including interdepartmental referrals for reviews of Construction Management Plans (CMPs), Protection Works proposals, large scale protection of the public proposals (Reg 116 applications), Places of Public Entertainment (POPE) and the like
Support the MBS and DMBS in all statutory, regulatory, reporting and administrative functions
Provide expert advice and assistance on all building regulatory related matters to both internal and external stakeholders
Assist in the mentoring of Building Surveying technical officers.
Key Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:
Successfully completed a tertiary qualification in Building Surveying (ie. Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying and/or Bachelor in Building Surveying)
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Building Surveying profession with demonstrated Council experience preferred.
VBA Registration as a building practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor Limited (BS-L) is preferred. Unregistered applicants will be considered, on the basis that you can demonstrate that you are working towards registration.
Experience in inspecting, auditing, and assessing of building work and existing buildings for compliance.
A good understanding of the interpretation and application of the Building Act and Regulations, Building Code of Australia (Volumes 1 and 2) and referenced standards and current building practices.
Proven commitment to a high standard of customer service and enthusiasm for serving all stakeholders, incorporating the capacity to diplomatically handle customer complaints.
You are energetic, high performing, and confident in managing assessments, inspections, audits, customers (internal and external), residents, and the various allied professionals.
You understand that to deliver exceptional results, you need to focus on the administration as well as the technical and site work
You have high self-awareness and can successfully communicate and respond to external and internal technical enquiries within areas of expertise and knowledge.
Mandatory pre-employment requirements:
Evidence of mandatory qualifications/registrations/memberships/licences
Current driver's licence
Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check
Provide or obtain an employment-based Working with Children check
Be willing to undertake a premedical assessment check
