Senior Finance Business Analyst

How will I Help?


With an increased number of projects and a commitment to further building capability in the team, we are looking for an engaging Senior Finance Business Analyst to join our team.

From day one your role will be within the Chief Transformation Office Finance Delivery team.  Our Transformation team is responsible for delivery of Enterprise Finance change across the Group (Finance, Corporate Services, C&BB, WIB, NZ).  You will be working closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver the right solution and business outcomes across a portfolio of projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Director, BA Capability
  • Work with key stakeholders to explore and agree clear business requirements to support the development of well defined goals, scope and solution milestones
  • Identify root causes and pain points to highlight critical improvement opportunities for a business
  • Ensures that Finance requirements are developed, documented and agreed to meet business requirements of projects
  • Extract insights from data to support the development and testing of data driven solution designs with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business needs and satisfy agreed requirements
  • Act as a key liaison point between Finance and other teams (eg. Business, Technology, Risk etc) to ensure that Finance needs are captured and understood to meet the needs of both Finance and the Business
  • Produce high quality, well written documents following Westpac project methodologies, such as the Finance Requirements (FRD) document, business process specifications (BPS), standard operating procedures, ‘As is’ and ‘To be’ processes for associated projects
  • Work closely with the Project, Business and Technology to ensure that Finance requirements are built as specified
  • Lead testing or Finance requirements and training of appropriate Finance individuals impacted by the Project
  • Perform implementation and post implementation activities to ensure successful delivery of the solution
  • Guide and mentor other members of the team in developing capabilities and career development
  • Incorporate project and business analysis best practices and incorporate continuous improvement practices into project delivery
  • Ensure that risk (project and Finance) are identified, prepare business impacts and risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Develop project plans and manage project deliverables
  • Facilitate activities that support solution delivery by removing constraints and blockers to ensure the full value of solution outcomes is realised

What do I need?


You will be highly driven with a strong Project Management background and possess experience in Finance related projects and proficiency in project management practice. Able to think outside the box, you will have strong problem solving and analytical skills and an ability to critically assess business problems.

Experience in the Financial Industry will assist you in building the right solutions for our projects. You will have an appreciation of different project methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and project change activities which will support your approach and success.

You will need to be a good communicator (written & verbal), who can build relationships with key stakeholders across Finance and non-Finance channels. Combining this, with your strong customer focus, consultative approach and ability to continuously seek improvement.


Knowledge and Expertise required:

  • Minimum 3-5 years Business Analysis experience.
  • Degree in Finance / Accounting
  • Experience in Financial Services
  • Prior experience in Finance / Accounting functions
  • Experience in developing test scenarios and execution
  • Knowledge and experience in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical, organisation and time management
  • Solid skills in negotiation, ability to develop trust, confidence and consensus
  • Experience in working across remote, co-located teams
  • Exposure to Agile project delivery and tools (eg. Jira, Confluence)
