About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Casualty Underwriter with strong technical and interpersonal skills to join the Casualty and FinPro Underwriting team.
You will contribute to delivering the profitable growth ambition of our Casualty book across Australia and New Zealand.
The key responsibilities span across hands-on underwriting in the market, seeking business opportunities, contributing to our strategy and driving execution, with a customer-centric focus!
You will assume responsibility for developing and leading client relationships (brokers and corporates) and underwriting Casualty risks according to Corporate Solutions appetite and philosophy.
Key responsibilities include:
Technical
Develop and underwrite Casualty risks;
Design timely and customised insurance solutions which add value and profitability for the client, the broker and Swiss Re.
Technically assess and underwrite business in accordance with the business's profitability targets, underwriting guidelines and processes and within stated authorities.
Able to learn internal insurance related systems.
Ensure the integrity of information on the relevant systems and underwriting is in accordance with underwriting guidelines, limits and pricing/rating procedures.
Lead the development of innovative products.
Client Management
Manage Casualty business by providing high quality, timely and appropriate underwriting service and support to clients, including timely and accurate documentation. Focus on developing and strengthening ongoing client relationships with a view of broadening business opportunities for the future.
Leadership
Contribute to the company's reputation of being an insurance subject matter expert by presenting at relevant industry or client specific seminars, workshops and forums, where appropriate.
Develop strong internal relationships both regionally and internationally.
Work closely within the underwriting team and other relevant stakeholders in the Group (Products/Risk Engineering /Claims Management/Actuaries);
Actively implement the strategies and support the Team by sharing ideas and technical knowledge.
Ensure that relevant staff are kept informed of insurance market activities in our business.
Mentor and support other team members.
About the Team
We are an experienced team of twelve underwriters across Casualty and FinPro looking after the Australia & New Zealand portfolio. We consider ourselves a dynamic team with lots of energy. While we work closely together with one another and our colleagues from other functions, the team embraces the flexibility that Swiss Re provides when it comes to the way we work. This position is based in either Sydney or Melbourne, but as part of a global team you will also liaise on a regular basis with colleagues across Asia and the world.
About You
You will possess:
Significant experience in underwriting public & product liability and other casualty risks.
A high level of underwriting acumen with a strong knowledge of risk exposures, wordings and pricing adequacy, including numerical analysis.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain profitable broker and client relationships and to strategically manage portfolios.
Client centric attitude with strong marketing skills.
Able to work collaboratively across different functions, levels and location within the organisation.
Knowledge of and strong local relationships with both international and local brokers in the Australian Casualty market would be highly regarded.
