In this role you will act as an advocate by providing high quality legal services including duty lawyer services, casework and advice services in civil law matters that most affect people's rights including mental health and disability law, tenancy, social security, National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and infringement fines. You will also participate in community legal education and develop collaborative relationships between VLA and local stakeholders.
Our Senior Lawyers also provide legal supervision, mentoring, training, and contribute to the professional development of less experienced lawyers and assist in the development of strategies to improve access to justice, including representing VLA in consultations and working groups.
About you:
As our ideal candidate, you bring:
- Substantial knowledge or practical experience in civil law and relevant court and tribunal procedures with the capacity to work as an advocate and caseworker.
- Ability to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues and positively engage with key partner agencies to appropriately manage referrals.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to supervise legal work and to mentor and train staff and contribute to the development of individuals and their knowledge and skills in civil law.
