CopperString 2032 is the largest ever economic development project in North Queensland, and one of the largest expansions to the power grid in Australia. The Copperstring project will increase the transmission capacity to 500kV and build 840 kilometres of transmission line from just south of Townsville in the Burdekin region to Mount Isa. This project will further unlock the renewable energy potential of this region.
We need your specialised engineering and commissioning management expertise in the development of high voltage transmission infrastructure to support the CopperString project delivery.

As our Senior Commissioning Lead you’ll use your expertise to ensure Operational Readiness of the CopperString 2032 Project and deliver a high level of commissioning services to the Project Team. You will use your specialised engineering and commissioning management expertise to develop clever solutions to interesting problems as you grow your skills every day. And you’ll do it with down-to-earth people who you’re proud to work with and get to know.
You will:
  • Be our technical commissioning expert and act as the primary interface between the project team and our Joint Venture partners regarding the planning and execution for the commissioning of the CopperString project deliverables.
  • Implement standard processes and procedures to plan commissioning of the Project.
  • Contribute significantly to the Project Staging, Outage management and Project Management Plans to ensure that the Project is executed efficiently.
  • Coach and mentor team members and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide successful project outcomes through taking the lead, managing expectations and influencing multidisciplinary virtual teams (or workshops).
  • Ensure all Project Technical Information, Documentation, Procedures, Drawings and training is up to date to allow timely commissioning and handover.
  • Ensure all project deliverables are fit for purpose and able to be taken over, maintained and operated by Powerlink’s Operations and Service Delivery.
What you’ll bring
  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia) alternatively combined with relevant applied industry experience a Bachelor of Technology or equivalent, or Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineering.
  • Significant relevant commissioning management experience in the development and delivery of high voltage transmission infrastructure projects.
We’d also need you to have demonstrated knowledge, experience and success in:
  • Coaching and mentoring of technical professionals in the commissioning of HV infrastructure projects.
  • Planning and organising detailed engineering projects including displaying specific transmission testing and commissioning experience for primary and secondary systems at transmission voltages.
  • Leading the delivery of multiple complex commissioning (ideally HV) projects through development and application of outage plans, commissioning staging plans and principles.
  • Safe systems of work, resulting in safe outcomes and/or performance improvement.
  • Managing and leading a virtual project teams to ensure compliance with commissioning and testing standards and principles.
  • Developing outage plans

This role will be part of a high performing CopperString 2032 project delivery team and will initially be based in our Copperstring project office in Bowen Hills. Going forward this position will be required to work from remote North Queensland construction sites to support the commissioning phases of the project.
