In support of the State Government Decarbonisation Strategy, Western Power has begun enhancing the existing network to enable future connection of large-scale renewable generation and load in our electricity grid.  Kicking off this strategy is the Clean Energy Link – North program which will increase network transfer capacity between the Perth metropolitan area and our regions to the North. It is vital the voice of our community helps to shape the essential work that we do.  

Now is an exciting time to get on board as we expand our Community Engagement team. We are seeking to build a team of experienced and passionate engagement professionals to help us future-proof our electricity network. Your customer-centric approach and commitment to social performance will support the delivery of some of Western Power’s key infrastructure projects.  

We are seeking a Senior Community Engagement Specialist on a Permanent Full-Time basis at our Perth Office – CBD – for an immediate start.

What can you bring to Western Power?  

  • Tertiary qualification in Communications, Social Planning and Sciences, Marketing, or related discipline 

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in communication, Community Engagement, stakeholder management or a related field  

  • Demonstrated and high level of subject matter expertise and experience in incorporating best practice communication / community and stakeholder engagement practices in delivering large and contentious infrastructure / innovative projects. 

  • Understanding of International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) spectrum 

  • Advanced and strong communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at multiple stakeholder levels. 

  • Ability to prioritise work and critically assess own performance. 

  • Excellent listening skills with a strong ability to demonstrate understanding and empathy. 

About the role 

  • Deliver proactive, hands-on strategic planning expertise to support internal and external engagements activities. 

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Western Power’s community and stakeholder engagement approach for new infrastructure and maintenance projects. 

  • Design and deliver engagement strategies for multiple projects consistent with Western Power’s brand and strategic objectives, which can include: 

  1. developing communications such as digital media content, project collateral, promotional material, media releases, and publications;  
  2. identifying innovative ways to engage communities using digital tools and media, and integrate this into existing processes; 
  3. face-to-face engagement with stakeholders and community; 
  4. managing Western Power events to commemorate key project milestones;  
  5. responding to escalated customer complaints; and 
  6. utilising research and insights to shape the engagement approach and measure success. 
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, particularly Local Government and project partners, to ensure their communications activities are strategically aligned with Western Power. 

  • Engage rural stakeholders and communities. Rural travel will be required and experience in with regional engagement is desirable.  

  • Strongly influence the internal awareness and acceptance of Western Power’s approach to Community Engagement and social performance, and advocate for community input to decision making. 

  • As required, evaluate, advise and report on all project communications and engagement progress and issues. 

  • Enhance and improve Western Power’s reputation with community and stakeholders and work to minimise impacts of our projects. 

  • Establish, develop, and maintain valued relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and nurturing advocates who support Western Power’s strategic objectives. 

  • Understand Western Power’s legal and regulatory obligations related to Community Engagement

  • Provide stakeholder management and communications advice on contentious issues.
