About the Role
This role will work with the current R&A data team and the Strategic Support Digital Project Unit team to progress the Department’s Data Strategy to provide a framework for managing data going forward for Executive consideration. This will also include liaising with stakeholders including other Division’s data teams, and participating in the Closing the Gap Data Officer Level Working Group to address how other agencies will implement Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDS) and Governance (IDG), and engage the Aboriginal Housing Sector in data sharing.
Key accountabilities include:
- Developing and implementing a Data Strategy aligned with business objectives and needs.
- Collaborate with business units, IT teams, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and establish effective data governance practices.
- Develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles
- Responsible for tasks such as stewardship, metadata management, tracing data lineage, building governance workflows and creating data dictionaries.
- Manage, prepare and review high-level communications, including letters, briefings, reports and correspondences.
- Ensure information is factual, accurate responses are provided within the agreed upon timeframes.
- Support the process of continuous improvement in the use of evidence in decision making – sharing learnings, developing tools to embed evidence in others work and exemplifying best practice.
- Keeping abreast of policy developments in the state and national arena and understanding the impact that these may have on the analytical work being undertaken.
- Keeping up-to-date and maintaining in-depth knowledge of analysis, modelling, research and evaluation methodologies and relevant information systems, and application of these in a human services context.
- Government experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role focusing on data strategy development, data governance, and stakeholder engagement.
- Track record of successfully implementing data governance policies and procedures.
- Experience in managing and overseeing data stewardship and metadata management activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work in sensitive environments involving Indigenous communities or sectors, ensuring respectful and ethical data handling practices.
- Experience in supporting organisational decision-making processes through the use of evidence and best practices.
