About the role
Are you passionate about driving economic growth and prosperity within the local community?
We are seeking a dynamic Senior Economic Advisor to join our team. This role is pivotal in the development and ongoing evaluation of Council's economic development programs and services and will provide specialist economic advice to both business and Council.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Support local businesses by undertaking research and collate data to identify emerging trends, challenges and opportunities.
  • Develop initiatives to attract new business, retain and grow existing businesses and to seek opportunities for more residents to work locally.
  • Lead the development and implementation of organisational strategies that relate to economic development and identify opportunities to embed and align economic development priorities across Council.
  • Develop, measure and report progress on indicators in Council's Economic Development Plan and economic development related actions in the Council Plan and other strategic Council documents.
  • Oversee the Business and Economy Advisory Committee; arrange meetings, agenda items and follow up on actions stemming from each meeting.
  • Work collaboratively with local businesses and other partners to foster business retention and expansion and to nurture local entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation.
  • Participate in the review, development and improvement of work systems and practices to enhance customer experience and increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of programs and services delivered.
  • Identify advocacy projects through discovery of the needs of the business community.
About you
We are seeking a proactive and resourceful individual who is results-oriented and possesses strong research and analytical skills.
The ideal candidate will have a proven history of developing, delivering, and monitoring economic development projects and have the ability to understand and work within the social, political and legal framework in which local government operates.
You will be required to effectively engage with a range of stakeholders and demonstrate strong communication skills.
The following is also required:
  • Tertiary qualifications in economic development, commerce, business, planning, social planning or similar field.
  • Substantial experience in data research and analysis including making key recommendations.
  • Experience in developing high level reports, business cases, consultant briefs and marketing material.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
