About the Opportunity
An opportunity is available for a Senior or Specialist Electrical Designer to provide technical design and drafting expertise to ASC and the Royal Australian Navy in support of the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Program. The role will see the successful applicant applying engineering knowledge for the electrical design, modification and integration of submarine systems such as Power Conversion and Distribution (PC&D), Propulsion, Power Generation and other impacted Electrical Systems
Responsibilities
- Perform technically challenging electrical design and drafting activities which demonstrate knowledge of engineering fundamentals;
- Undertake detail design activities from assembly to system level, production of electrical drawing outputs such as Cable Block Diagrams, Schematics, Connection details and Cable Installation data.
- Selection of electrical components suitable for installation and manufacture
- Provide leadership and guidance to a small team of designers;
- Review/check designers’ outputs;
- Consult and liaise with the key project stakeholders (internal and external) to deliver regular updates on work performed, plans and overall status;
- Provide estimates of hours required to create/update design artefacts to fulfil project requirement; and
- Analysis of detail design processes to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement
About you
- Advanced Diploma/Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Electrical trade qualification highly regarded)
- Minimum 7+ years’ experience in design and integration of electrical systems
- Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD to produce 2D Electrical drawings (Experience with Autodesk Inventor 3D desirable)
- Experienced in the development and review of engineering documentation and drawings
- Proven ability to lead, train and mentor a small team
- Capability to manage design activities to deliver work on time and budget.
- Ability to build and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with stakeholders, as well as the drive to motivate yourself and others, and embrace personal development.
Desirable competencies and experiences
- Current Baseline or NV1 Clearance.
- Familiarity with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools and procedures
- Knowledge and understanding of Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSWMS) and its application to Engineering Delegations and Risk Levels.
- Knowledge of Submarines or the Shipbuilding engineering environment.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
