About the role  

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Reliability Engineer to join our Maintenance Planning and Engineering (MP&E) team at our Yandicoogina site.

As the Senior Reliability Engineer you will lead a team of Reliability, Electrical and Control Engineers and be responsible for championing defect elimination and reliability engineering processes to improve the asset performance across both the fixed plant and mobile equipment.

Reporting to the Superintendent Asset Management, you will:

  • Support and develop a team of multi-disciplined Engineers in the delivery of reliability engineering processes
  • Provide expert technical advice to operations and maintenance teams
  • Lead and support investigations into asset failures and performance, including root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Utilise performance data to identify high value defect elimination opportunities and implement improvements in reliability, productivity and cost
  • Recommend and implement tactics designed to support high levels of asset safety, reliability and integrity
  • Monitor and analyse the performance of our assets and analyse primary/ secondary maintenance tasks to improve asset reliability and cost

What you’ll bring

You will have tertiary qualifications in engineering or a related discipline, coupled with previous maintenance or reliability experience within a mining environment. You will be committed to demonstrating and promoting a positive safety culture and most importantly, you are someone who thrives on a challenge and is willing to be creative when solving technical problems.

With an ability to relate to a diverse range of stakeholders and operational teams, you will have experience effectively collaborating with others in order to drive successful outcomes. You will have previous experience leading an engineering team to accurately identify the root cause of issues, provide recommendations and implement change to support continuous improvement.

Practical experience and an understanding of asset management and reliability-based principles and processes such as RCA, FMECA and tactics development will be required. A working knowledge of statutory, Australian and Rio Tinto engineering standards will be advantageous, and a full ‘C’ class driver’s licence is essential. Prior experience with SAP and other maintenance and reliability software will be advantageous.

 Located 95km north-west of Newman, Yandicoogina offers a range of fly in fly out rosters. As one of Australia’s largest-producing iron ore mines; operating a fleet of autonomous trucks and drills, it generates more than 55 million tonnes of Hammersley Iron Yandi (HIY) fines each year.

This role is for applicants residing in or willing to permanently relocate to Western Australia. Rio Tinto offers Fly in and fly out options from Perth, our regional FIFO hubs and the opportunity to live in our residential towns where applicable.
