About the role
As a Senior Power System Engineer within the Grid Performance and Integration team, you will play a key role in leading detailed power system studies to assess risks associated with major events. This will involve delivery of AEMO’s General Power System Risk Review, solving complex power system modelling issues and completing power system incident reviews within the Modelling and Engineering division.
This is a permanent role with the ability to be based in any AEMO office location, including Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
What you will be doing
- Lead power system studies in PSS/E and PSCAD as part of AEMO’s General Power System Risk Review
- Develop base case power system models for AEMO network studies to support the General Power System Risk review
- Interpret and justify simulation outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations on network adequacy and investment options
- Develop and implement procedures for AEMO in conjunction with senior staff, management, and external stakeholders to ensure a consistent approach and clarity of process
- Develop and maintain effective software tools for automating technical studies and model information management process
- Validate power system models for Special Protection Schemes using PSS/E and PSCAD software
What you will bring to the role
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering with a discipline relevant to power systems
- Substantial relevant industry experience
- Demonstrated experience in electricity transmission network analysis and the interpretation of analysis performed by others
- Highly proficient in using PSS/E and PSCAD for load flow, short circuit, and stability analysis (rotor angle stability and voltage stability)
- Proficiency in automating technical studies and information management process using an object-oriented programming language such as Python, C++, Visual Basic etc.
