Atlassian's #1 OKR is shifting our customers to cloud and the Enterprise Migration Team builds product and platform capabilities that make this shift to cloud possible for our customers. Atlassian's mission is to get cloud-ready for every customer. We have migrated some of our customers to cloud and the journey has started. We have a long way to go and a very interesting set of product and engineering problems to solve in this journey.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you'll be a technical leader and people manager, responsible for guiding the team to technical decisions for production services, helping prioritize and organize the team's work, and providing career growth and mentorship opportunities to your team.
You will manage a group of technical leads, frontline Engineering Manager, IC’s across levels and will work closely with engg. and product management counterparts to build migration platform capabilities that help us migrate more and more customers from server to cloud and remain delighted customers when it comes to cloud to cloud journey.
About Migrations Platform
Enterprise customers consider the capability to move large amounts of data from server to cloud, within and outside their cloud site as an important functionality for getting ready to use Atlassian's cloud offerings. Migration platform today consists of different mechanisms and customer-facing features that allow the customers to manage their data in the form of cloud-to-cloud offerings, backup & restore, and other import/export capabilities. It is a crucial part of our enterprise cloud readiness story and continues to be one of the tops asks for cloud adoption. With this program, we are trying to unify the platform and experience for the customers to guide them through the journey regarding what tools to use and when. It also encompasses providing a centralized migrations platform that can provide a skeleton to different feature teams in respective cloud products to easily integrate with the capabilities.
Role
You'll work closely with platform’s eng.. leadership customers, product management as well as architecture teams to influence the direction of the platform and plan the steps to get there. You'll be responsible for building effective teams, empowering them to achieve their goals, and putting those goals into a broader context. Your greatest responsibility will be looking after the individuals reporting to you – coaching and supporting them in their professional development, unlocking their potential, and challenging them to step outside their comfort zone to grow and excel. As a hands-on engineering leader, you will also contribute to the engineering and operational practices and bring in a continuous improvement mindset.
Qualifications
On their first day, we'll expect
Significant experience with building large-scale backend software / platform components
Experience in leading large development teams
Experience in developing platforms and products in a SaaS world
Familiarity with agile software development methodologies
Ability to drive technical excellence, pushing innovation, quality, and operational excellence
Strong organization and communication skills
Driving clarity from single-line requirements and providing direction in ambiguous environments
A track record of strong execution and delivering results
Managing frontline Engineering Managers and architects
Strong execution focus and proven track record of complex software delivery to production environments
It's great if you have
Experience in defining a strategic roadmap for products and platforms
Experience with distributed development teams across multiple geographies
Continuous delivery with a strong bias for action
Your background
15+ years of software development management experience, managing team of 25 plus engineers
Bachelor's or Master's degree with a preference for Computer Science degree
Demonstrated experience partnering with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to create the course of a platform
Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (e.g., XP, scrum)
Demonstrated experience mentoring and growing high performing engineering teams
Contributed in the past to the technical strategy of the team
