Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Driving technical strategy by paving the way and building roadmaps.
- Developing and growing two teams through effective hiring, coaching, succession planning, and retention strategies. You will directly lead one team of 7 Canvanauts (software engineers) and one quality team.
- Setting up and running ongoing feedback sessions, and initiatives to help drive a healthy code review culture, knowledge sharing, design showcases, and helping improve processes through retrospectives.
- Managing and engaging with collaborators across all of engineering at Canva.
You're probably a match if:
- You have proven experience with technical and people leadership - you've previously led impactful teams where everyone is able to share their best ideas and be their best selves.
- You have strong computer engineering / science knowledge around fundamentals and first principles relating to: concurrency, multithreading, data structures, architecture, and various design patterns.
- You've got an understanding of the DevOps ecosystem concerning tooling, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Integration, Infrastructure as Code.
- You have strong knowledge of frontend, backend and mobile testing principles at all levels of testing (unit, integration, end-to-end) and automation experience with Selenium and Appium.
- You're capable of leading by example - promoting Canva's values, no-blame mentality, and engineering values.

As the leader of the team, you will be working closely with engineers and QA to understand their issues to unblock them and improve their effectiveness. Your day-to-day work includes crafting our frameworks to be as efficient as possible which will include researching third-party testing tools and developing in-house solutions.
