The Role
Reporting to the Environmental Operations Manager, you will engage with other work groups across the Sunwater business to manage environmental risk and improve efficiency. You will influence internal and external stakeholders (including customers, councils, environmental groups) through frequent engagement and relationship building leading to collaboration. A key component of this role will be to prepare relevant environmental compliance reports and provide environmental support and advice to project, planning and operational groups within the business.
In addition, you will:-
- Coordinate and monitor contractor/environmental consultants for compliance/reporting activities
- Participate collaboratively as part of the Environment team
- Provide advice on management of environmental risks which affect a water supply business operating in regional areas, including incident reporting and follow-up
- Ensure measures are in place to provide assurance in relation to Sunwater’s compliance with the terms of its environmental approvals, licences or permits
- Ensure that a fit for purpose Environmental Management System is implemented, maintained and continuously improved in accordance with the requirements of the AS/NZS ISO 14001 standard and undertake related reviews and audits
- Provide expert input to the business in relation to negotiations and preparations of submissions/ applications to State (DES, DAF, DNRME) or Commonwealth (DCCEEW, MDBA) environmental regulators
Please note this role can be based in either the Chinchilla, Goondiwindi or Warrick Office. Please also note that this role will require you to travel to various regional QLD sites.
About You
You will be experienced in environmental management practices of commercial business organisations, including an understanding of sustainability, environmental legislation, natural resources management and current industry practices and technology. You be able to maintain ISO-accredited environmental management systems and undertake audits to provide assurance regarding compliance with standards and environmental approvals and licences.
In addition, you will have:-
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant environmental discipline (e.g. environmental science, environmental engineering)
- 5 + years demonstrated experience of working in an environmental management team in a water service provider/ water utility business
- High level capability in leadership, mentoring and provision of training
- Extensive experience developing concise procedures, technical and scientific reports on complex issues.
- Class ‘C’ Driving licence
