About the team
Join our passionate team and help the City protect and enhance its natural asset network. The team of five is made up of dedicated ecologists and Environmental Planners, with expertise in planning and policy development, project management and planning scheme drafting. As a Senior Environmental Planner, you will assist the Team Leader in the delivery of actions relating to strategic environmental planning within the city.
About your new role
The Senior Environmental Planner works with the Environmental Planning team within the broader Environmental Planning and Assessment Business Unit. This position prepares and implements environmental policy and planning instruments to deliver on the City's strategic environmental priorities under the Council Plan, in partnership with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and provides environmental advice for City-led projects.

We're looking for people who have:
You are an individual that thrives working within a team environment and can build strong working relationships with teammates and support staff to achieve goals and aspirations.
To be successful in the role ideally you will.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Planning, Planning or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years' experience in strategic environmental planning or similar.
- Have strong, demonstrated project management skills, and an ability to manage the delivery of environmental projects internally, or externally through consultants. A qualification in project management would be highly desirable.
- Have experience in the development of environmental policy, including experience in the drafting of planning scheme codes and policies.
- Have knowledge of relevant State and Federal legislation as it relates to environmental planning (e.g., EPBC Act 1999, Planning Act 2017 etc.).
- Have a strong understanding of the City of Gold Coast's planning scheme (the City Plan), and its associated environmental overlays and provisions.
- Be a strong team player and contribute to a positive team environment in accordance with City workplace policies and practices, and the City's corporate values and high-performance principles.
- Have well-developed communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal) with an ability to build and maintain professional and productive relationships with team members and other City departments, government agencies, community organisations, community members and a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Have demonstrated skills and experience in research and problem solving.
- Have experience in successfully managing the delivery of a work program with multiple conflicting priorities; ensuring program deliverables and deadlines are met whilst achieving high quality outcomes.
- Have strong skills in Microsoft Office and GIS applications such as ArcPro.
- Maintain a culture of health and safety in accordance with the City's High-Performance Principles.
