The Company
Our client, a widely recognised multinational conglomerate with renewable energy operations in Australia, US, Canada, Asia and Europe, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager specialising in Solar and BESS to join their expanding Renewable Energy Business. With a remit to shape the local operations of the firm, and with a focus on the development approval process, the successful candidate will project manage all aspects of planning, permitting and feasibility assessment of RE projects from early-stage development through to financial close (FID) for multiple large-scale Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Hybrid projects in NSW, VIC and QLD.
The company currently has a very strong project pipeline and plans to further expand in the medium term to focus not only on the early-stage development phase of renewables but also on the construction, ownership, and ongoing operation of significant utility-scale renewable energy sites across this region.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful individual will collaborate across multiple disciplines, including finance, legal, land and grid, taking a multi-faceted approach to managing the early stages of RE project development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing multidisciplinary teams to support the identification and origination of Solar, BESS or Hybrid projects.
- Lead efforts in site assessment, selection, environmental impact assessments and feasibility studies.
- Stakeholder liaison and community consultation managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Undertaking risk assessment, environmental, cultural and heritage impact studies, resource assessment, grid connection and project design activities in collaboration with internal and external Subject Matter Experts.
- Manage all aspects of the permitting process, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal solar and BESS energy project regulations.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of project applications and licenses required for development.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, utilities, landowners, communities, and regulatory bodies, to gain support and navigate the permitting and approval process.
Your Profile
With a background in Environmental Planning and/or project management in renewables development organisations or consulting firms, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully securing renewable energy project approvals through to the FID stage, particularly in solar and BESS.
Experienced in working collaboratively with regulators and internal and external technical specialist teams to secure project approvals, the successful individual will have a deep understanding of the relevant regulations, policies and permitting processes associated with solar farm and energy storage projects for NSW and, ideally, VIC.
Ideally, a minimum of 3 years of experience in renewable energy is required, with at least 1 years' experience specifically in the early-stage development space for large-scale solar and/or storage projects.
The successful candidate will have a history of effective Stakeholder and Community Engagement, establishing trusting relationships to assist with the planning and permitting process.
From an educational perspective, a bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning/science, planning, business, engineering, or another related field will be highly regarded with skills in:
