THE OPPORTUNITY
As the Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating project costs and ensuring the successful completion of projects within budgetary constraints. This role requires a deep understanding of construction methods, materials (specifically structural steel) and costs, as well as proficiency in estimation software and outstanding communication skills.
Key areas of responsibility:
Project Assessment and Planning:
- Review Project Specifications: Thoroughly examine project details for accurate cost estimation.
- Evaluate Project Scope: Define project scope to prevent cost overruns.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Align with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders on project goals.
Resource Evaluation:
- Assess Material and Equipment Needs: Determine required resources and associated costs.
- Perform Quantity Take-offs: Calculate materials needed for accurate estimates.
- Utilise Estimation Software: Use technology for precise and efficient estimation.
Cost Estimation and Analysis:
- Apply Cost Indexing: Adjust historical data for accurate cost reflection.
- Factor in Contingencies: Include allowances for unforeseen events.
- Conduct Cost-Benefit Analysis: Assess cost options for informed decision-making.
- Generate Detailed Cost Estimates: Provide comprehensive breakdowns of project costs.
- Conduct Quality Checks: Ensure accuracy and consistency of estimates.
- Verify Compliance: Confirm adherence to building codes and regulations.
- Implement Improvement Initiatives: Drive enhancements to streamline workflows.
- Conduct Lessons Learned Sessions: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
ABOUT YOU
You are an accomplished Senior Estimator, renowned for your expertise and meticulous attention to detail.
With a demonstrated history of expertise in SME business leadership and a commitment to delivering precise, high-quality outcomes, you excel in tackling intricate challenges and ensuring precision in every aspect of your work.
To be successful, you will need to demonstrate:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in the commercial construction (industrial) sector and working with structural steel.
- Strong track record of successfully estimating and managing structural steel components within larger construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents accurately.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to produce accurate and comprehensive cost estimates.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with value engineering principles and cost-saving techniques
