About the opportunity
Fisheries and Marine Officers make a difference! Your expertise will shape the delivery of compliance programs and the effective implementation of management strategies.
As a Senior Fisheries and Marine Officer, you will drive investigations, inspections, and patrols to ensure fisheries legislation is being complied with. You will mentor and guide colleagues in best practices, elevating our operational standards. You will rely on your experience to influence compliance policies, strategies, and community education projects. The role also includes fostering collaborative relationships with enforcement agencies, industry partners, and government bodies. In this diverse role you may also be required to assist in administering other legislation that DPIRD is responsible for, such as Animal Welfare and Biosecurity.
We currently have immediate vacancies in Albany, Broome, Carnarvon, Geraldton/Abrolhos Islands, Jurien Bay and the Perth Metropolitan Area.
We are looking for individuals with:

  • An interest in and willingness to work in remote nearshore areas and Marine environments in the protection of aquatic resources;
  • Certificate qualifications in compliance and investigations and/or possession of relevant experience;
  • Possession of relevant maritime operations qualifications;
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant compliance legislation, compliance governance framework, and operational procedures.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and verbal communications skills.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information
DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency for animal and plant biosecurity and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
Am I eligible to apply?
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.
You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to appointment at applicant’s expense.
