About the role:

The role is performed within the Subpoena Co-ordination Unit (SCU) which is a specialist unit within the Victoria Police Legal Services Department.  The role requires the receipt, assessment and management of subpoenas served on Victoria Police employees to ensure compliance and minimise risk to the organisation. The Unit is supervised by sworn police sergeants and is managed by sworn police senior sergeant.  Stakeholders include the Federal Court of Australia, state courts and tribunals in all states & territories within Australia, Australian Federal Police & police departments in all states & the Northern Territory, legal practitioners and members of the public.

Your duties will include:

  • Assessment & response to e-mails received in the unit position-based e-mail accounts.
  • Recording and processing of financials in accordance with unit instructions.
  • Responding to a large volume telephone inquiries and providing advice to stakeholders on all aspects of the general subpoena process.
  • Assessing subpoenas and allocating their response to the most appropriate Victoria Police employee(s).
  • Conducting information searches and sourcing relevant material in response to subpoenas.
  • Assessing subpoenaed material and applying appropriate redactions utilising redaction software.
  • Supervision of the Unit VPS-2 staff member.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • The salary range for a VPS3 role is $74,580 to $90,558 (covering salary ranges VPSG 3.1 and VPSG 3.2).  Although it is standard practice for selected candidates to commence at the base of the salary range, genuine consideration will be given to a commencement salary within the available range that is commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills and experiences. This will be subject to negotiations with the Hiring Manager in the course of the selection process and may include the provision of evidence of a higher income and/or supporting documentation (as required).
  • This position is located at Level 1/456 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne VIC 3000.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • As a member of the Legal Services Department, you will be located on selection, at a specific office within a division for a particular advertised opportunity. However, given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department. This supports the Departments commitment to a flexible and deployable legal workforce and professional development opportunities in a range of legal domains.
