We recognise your contribution to our workforce and offer generous remuneration and conditions including:

  • Six weeks (30 days) of paid annual leave per year + additional paid Christmas stand down
  • 4 extra mandatory leave rest days per year
  • 18 days of paid personal leave per year

  • Generous salaries and incremental salary progression governed by the AFP Enterprise Agreement
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangement that provides work/life balance
  • Access to ongoing training and development to support ambitions

What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Senior International Gender and Inclusion Specialist in the AFP’s international Strategy, Design and Evaluation (SDE) team.

Are you passionate about learning facilitation and gender equality and Inclusion initiatives? If this role appeals to you but your CV does not align with all aspects of the position description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the candidate we’re looking for.

What will you do?

The International Gender Team engages closely and cohesively with the three other teams, and the successful candidate may be required to be agile in support of their work.

  • SDE Strategy provides strategy development and advice, driven by strategic and geopolitical intelligence, to inform International Command’s situational awareness and decision-making around AFP police diplomacy efforts.
  • SDE Design shapes our international programs and projects within our forward presence
  • SDE Evaluation and Learning manages and delivers monitoring and evaluation services for AFP’s international policing initiatives.

The Specialist will design, develop, and deliver gender-related training to Australian and international law enforcement personnel. Trainings range from compulsory short sessions, through to multi-day selective programs. This will include facilitating discussions among experienced adult participants, delivering difficult or culturally sensitive content, and adapting content to different contexts and feedback. You will also be required to identify and realise opportunities to bring in guest speakers and presenters, or otherwise adapt content to best suit the needs of the audience. The role may include travel internationally, depending on the needs of the audience.

The Specialist will be required to work collaboratively as part of the team via flexibly taking up a range of work types relating to the promotion of gender sensitivity and gender equality in AFP’s international engagements, deployments, and programs. This will include delivery of policy and briefing materials; review and contribution to policy and program design, management, and evaluation; and collaboration with a range of AFP, Australian Government, non-government, and international stakeholders.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Commitment to a positive team working environment, and to AFP values
  • Demonstrated capability in building cross-cultural working relationships, and drawing in expertise from stakeholders to deliver deliverables
  • A good understanding of issues related to gender equity, intersectionality, and social inclusion
  • Ability to work in politically and culturally sensitive environments, whilst aligning messaging to government policy objectives
  • Flexibility to manage multiple tasks and meet changing deadlines with minimal supervision

Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

  • Ability to design and deliver impactful learning experiences for diverse adult participants. Experience working with diverse and/or senior and experienced audiences is highly valued.
  • Ability to undertake short term (1-2 week) international travel if required, (including the ability to coordinate logistical arrangements to a deadline, and ability to pass pre-deployment gateways including integrity checks, medical and psychological assessments)
  • Relevant qualification(s) or experience in policing / corrections / justice / adult learning / teaching / gender / social sciences.
  • Familiarity with project or program management, especially in international development or training sectors. This might include designing initiatives, planning delivery of a set of activities, managing finances, monitoring results, evaluating success, or involvement in governance of various initiatives.
  • Experience living, working or studying offshore, especially in Asia, Pacific, or developing contexts.
  • Proficiency in an Asian or Pacific language.
