  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $116,059 to $129,288 + super
The Applied Bushfire Science Program, within the Science Economics and Insights Division are currently seeking to appoint a Knowledge Exchange Officer to manage and coordinate the communication, translation and implementation of expert scientific outputs and outcomes from the NSW Bushfire and Natural Hazard Research Centre (BNHRC).
About you
Are you passionate about applied natural hazards research and influencing changes to policy and practice for resilient communities and landscapes? Are you well networked across the research and emergency management and resilience sector? Do you have demonstrated experience working on science communication and research translation with a flair for innovative approaches? Do you have 5 plus years' experience working in the applied natural hazards sector? Then we are looking for you!
As a Senior Knowledge Exchange Officer within the Applied Bushfire Science Program, you will collaborate closely with BNHRC researchers and stakeholders, to:
  • Coordinate the successful communication and translation of science into impact within NSW government agencies
  • Maintain collaborative networks across the Department of Climate Change Energy Environment and Water (DCCEEW), government agencies, universities, and other research providers
  • Develop effective monitoring and evaluation processes to measure the impacts of the BNHRC research effort and provide ongoing feedback for improvement
  • Stay abreast of the latest national and international natural hazards and adaptation research and look for opportunities for further collaboration and new applied research opportunities
  • Represent the division or cluster on relevant scientific committees/working groups.
You will have:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in the research translation space to drive policy and practice change
  • Expertise and experience working across the breadth of natural hazards research (bushfires, floods, storms etc.)
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating research impact
  • A wide network of contacts across the natural hazards research and emergency management sector
Essential Requirements
  • Relevant scientific research qualifications - Masters or PhD
  • 5 plus years' experience in applied natural hazards research

Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) & BCT's Private Land Conservation (PLC) Programs
All new employees with an existing defined interest in the BOS will be required to disclose their personal (or a close family member's) participation to ensure potential conflicts are managed appropriately. In some circumstances this may require divestment of the interest.
The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.
