Senior Lawyer - Renewable Energy

With proven experience and expertise across the project lifecycle, we work with local communities and our customers to lead the transition to Australia’s clean energy future.We are 100% Australian owned and have 1.1 gigawatts (GW) of Renewable Energy in operation and an Australian development pipeline of 20GW.The Role:We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Lawyer that is responsible as the lead lawyer in major business projects. The Senior Lawyer will work directly with our commercial energy markets team or with the project teams on new projects reaching financial completion or projects during construction and after commencement of commercial operations.The Senior Lawyer proposes strategic legal solutions to add value in our commercial contract negotiations, structures and deals and ensures compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.The role also contributes to the strategic objectives of Squadron Energy and must provide leadership in the Legal team.The position is Sydney, NSW preferred (other locations considered)Responsibilities include:

• Legal lead on significant business contracts and projects being undertaken by the business on the development, delivery and operations of, or the sale (or trading) of electricity (or gas) from our energy projects.
• Providing practical and strategic commercial legal support across the Squadron Energy business based on a sound understanding of the business’ goals and commercial drivers.
• Provide lead legal support, negotiation and drafting with respect to
• Renewable energy projects agreements related to development, construction and/or operations; and/or
• Power purchase agreements and access/connection agreements (and/or gas sales and transportation agreements).
• Advising and presenting to senior management on matters requiring business approval.
• Assist in identifying and managing key legal risks for the group.
• Instruct and efficiently manage the use of external lawyers.
• Contribute as a senior member of the legal team, with ability to develop into a team leader; provide motivation, encouragement and opportunities for development.

Requirements

• 8+ years post admission experience in Private Practice or In-House at a relevant business.
• Tertiary qualifications in law with a current unrestricted practising certificate in Australia.
• Experience as lead lawyer in the drafting and negotiation of major commercial contracts in the energy sector.
• Experience drafting and negotiating project contracts for Renewable Energy projects or gas projects.
• Experience drafting and negotiating power purchase agreements or access/connection agreements and other offtake arrangements, or retail energy contracts.
• Knowledge of electricity or gas regulatory regime.
• Energy trading or retail energy legal experience.
• Experience advising on gas projects, FSRU or LNG shipping and similar matters
• Experience leading a team is preferred but not required.
