About Flinders Rural and Remote Health SA

Flinders University Rural and Remote Health SA (FRRHSA) facilitates high quality multidisciplinary health education and research in our State's regional areas.

We have a strong national and international reputation for providing community-engaged inter-professional training for medical, nursing, and allied health students. This includes offering longitudinal rural clinical placements in years 3 and 4 of the Flinders University MD program. Through this practice, we bring new and exciting opportunities to actively engage and work with rural communities.


About the SA Rural Medical Program

The new SA Rural Medical (SARM) Program is a Commonwealth funded; end-to-end rural medical program based in our Rural SA campuses. The SARM Program is one of the components that forms the University's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program which sits within the College of Medicine and Public Health.

The aim of the SARM Program is to contribute to strengthening the medical workforce in Rural South Australia. This is achieved through the delivery of a fully accredited 4-year Doctor of Medicine program that is supported by dedicated academic and professional staff based in our Rural SA campuses. The SARM Program will develop the medical workforce and transform the landscape of Rural and Remote South Australia.


About the Role

This Teaching Specialist (Academic) position in the SA Rural Medical (SARM) Program with its primary focus on teaching and teaching-related activities in disciplines that make up the Foundational Medical Sciences has an important role to play in the University's achievement of its strategic plan, Making a Difference: The 2025 Agenda.

The Senior Lecturer will provide leadership in delivering excellence in teaching and learning across the suite of years 1 & 2 of the SARM Program, including subject matter that covers key disciplines of bioMedical Science relating to medical practice such as biochemistry, physiology, anatomy and histology, pharmacology, pathology, microbiology, immunology, and genetics. The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for making a significant and wide-ranging contribution to leadership in teaching and scholarship of teaching using innovations in teaching practices and technologies to deliver excellence in teaching. The Senior Lecturer will also have a key leadership role in service to the College and/or University.


About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a PhD (in a discipline area related to Health or Medical Science) or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of application of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline
  • Significant and sustained excellence in teaching performance at a tertiary level, inclusive of the relevant professional setting with evidence of a distinguished personal contribution in disciplines which make up the Foundational Medical Sciences, such as gross anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, immunology, pathology, histology, microbiology, pharmacology, genetics
  • Scholarship of teaching and of professional development in higher education teaching
  • Strong understanding of the nexus between teaching and learning, research, and scholarship
  • Provided leadership to professional activities within a relevant external professional domain and within a wider community context at local, national, or international level which could include topic/course coordinator, major award programs, leadership in quality assurance processes and relationship building with external parties including consultancy work and conferences.
