The National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two national schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The National School is based on two distinct campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School of Arts and Sciences delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling, and science, with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The School of Arts & Sciences seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor, discipline lead for our Counselling programs delivered on our Sydney and Fremantle campuses. The primary responsibility is the coordination and delivery of the Counselling programs and oversight of professional accreditation processes with national bodies. The position will oversee staff in the discipline area, providing leadership in relation to the delivery and ongoing review of the programs. The appointee is expected to demonstrate an active research profile and evidence of research leadership within the discipline. This role will also contribute to strengthening existing partnerships and exploring new partnerships with external stakeholders that have potential for providing improved teaching, learning and research outcomes for the University.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver student focused learning and teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students in Counselling.
- Lead curriculum design, innovation and oversee any amendments to the programs
- Lead curriculum mapping of programs in consultation with the learning and teaching staff within the faculty
- Conduct digital and face to face lecturers, seminars, tutorials, workshops and placement supervision.
- Oversee curriculum innovation and content design.
- Supervise the program of study of postgraduate students engaged in coursework.
- Undertake nationally competitive and high quality or impactful and professionally engaged research in Counselling.
- Provide supervision to higher degree by research students and mentorship to junior staff.
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- A PhD in Counselling (or closely related field).
- Member or eligible for membership with PACFA and Level 4 Membership of ACA.
- A psychotherapist/counsellor or professional from a related discipline of at least five years’ experience and eligible for clinical or full membership of the professional body relevant to their qualification.
- Concurrently engaged in practice in psychotherapy/ counselling relevant to the program or extensive clinical experience sufficient for their role.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
- Demonstrated competence in facilitating adult learning, with some training or equivalent work experience in in-training delivery.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence with experience in program coordination, curriculum design and accreditation.
- A record of quality research with impact, and industry engaged research in Counselling.
- Academic leadership experience with the ability to effectively mentor other staff.
- Experience with online or blended delivery (desirable)
- Recent professional practice in Counselling (desirable)
