The successful candidate will develop high quality research and deliver excellent teaching in key areas within the Data Science, Mathematics and Computing degree programs.With the Computer and Information Systems area at the University of Newcastle highly ranked in the 2024 QS subject rankings, recently moving up 2 bands to be listed in the 300 globally, this is a fantastic opportunity for an academic to further develop their career as part of a high performing team.We are looking for someone who wants to embed themselves at University of Newcastle and the broader community of Newcastle which offers excellent opportunities for local industry collaboration, as well as outstanding lifestyle opportunities to support a healthy work-life balance.How will you inspire usWith an already internationally recognised interdisciplinary profile, you will be comfortable to teach and provide leadership in any course in the Bachelor of Data Science as well as providing teaching support in the Mathematics and Computer Science programs, where necessary.The essential skills required for this role are:
  • Completed a doctoral qualification in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics or closely related area.
  • Demonstrated record of publication or non-traditional research output in high quality outlets.
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach and lead the development of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Statistics related courses and programs.
  • Demonstrated capacity for independent research, contributing as a chief investigator.
  • Skills in active and effective record of supervisions of Honours and Masters research projects and primary supervision of Higher Degree by Research students.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve teaching quality as indicated by surveys, qualitative feedback, and outcomes for students.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with industry, students, and/or the community to build the reputation of the University and the Data Science programs.
