We have operations in over 50 countries and we take pride in our purpose driven work of connecting students from around the world with their international study aspirations and helping them realise their global ambitions.Our core business lines include student placement to Australia, US, UK, Canada and New Zealand, our globally used and recognised English Language Testing (IELTS) and IDP Connect which provides our University & Institutional partners with unparalleled access to student insights and engagement.We are continuing to grow and our Group Legal function plays an important role in supporting this growth through the provision of high quality Legal Counsel and corporate advice across each of our divisions and geographical regions.This is where you come in!Reporting to the Group General Counsel, this role will be the key legal advisor to a portfolio of IDP business lines. You will form part of IDP’s global Legal and Governance team and work closely with Regional and Country Directors across the globe.In this role, you will provide commercial and strategic advice on a broad range of matters impacting IDP’s global operations. This includes drafting and advising on commercial contracts, advising on data and privacy issues, consumer and competition law, dispute resolution and managing external counsel in our various international locations. You will also support the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary on corporate governance issues and will lead other strategic projects. In a nutshell, your role will include;
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts.
- Providing legal advice on legal issues including competition and consumer law, IP, technology and employment
- Providing legal advice on privacy and data security across IDP’s global business.
- Providing legal advice on corporate governance issues.
- Managing disputes in conjunction with external counsel
- Participating in innovation and continuous improvement of processes to improve the way IDP operates.
- 8-10 years’ experience gained from both a well regarded law firm and subsequent in-house/client side experience
- Extensive experience working with or for organisations that can best be described as consumer services (ie banking, telco, financial services)
- Previous experience in a multi-national/global organisation would be advantageous
- The ability to navigate complexity and work with stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Sound understanding of data privacy laws
- Outstanding communication skills, heightened negotiation and contractual advisory capability and the ability to deliver sound yet simple advice.
