This role is a salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $139,787 - $161,663 base plus superannuation, commensurate with experience.

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Manager Design to join our Projects NSW team. As the Senior Manager Design, you will work closely with the Director of Planning and Design to oversee and execute activities for our iconic precincts including Blackwattle Bay and Barangaroo. Your responsibilities will include driving design excellence through strategic and statutory planning processes, overseeing the delivery of public art and heritage interpretation initiatives, and upholding our commitments to sustainability and climate positivity.
Some of the key accountabilities for the role include:
- Leading and contributing to project planning, design and development functions, assisting with complex negotiations, to facilitate the delivery of the Precincts projects.
- Assisting the Director in the coordination, management and review of planning, design, sustainability and arts and culture related activities.
- Champion and facilitating the achievement of design excellence outcomes across Precincts whilst working collaboratively with internal project teams, consultants, Barangaroo developers, owners and tenants to deliver on NSW Government’s commitments.
- Leading key stakeholder consultation and management, including the Design Excellence Advisory Panels and Arts & Culture Panels, INSW First Nations Working Group, Place Management NSW, NSW Department of Planning & Environment and City of Sydney.
About You
We seek a dedicated professional possessing tertiary qualifications or substantial experience in fields such as architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, project management or related areas.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a track record in project management within the domains of urban renewal, property development, or infrastructure industries. Proficiency in coordinating diverse teams of consultants and contracts is essential for driving project success.
Moreover, we require someone skilled in tender assessment, contract negotiation, and financial management within high-value development procurement contexts. Your expertise in comprehending and overseeing various contracts and technical documentation is crucial for ensuring the smooth planning, design, and execution of urban renewal, development, and infrastructure projects.
In addition to these qualifications, exceptional communication abilities, polished business writing skills, impactful presentation techniques, and strong networking capabilities are indispensable. We seek a collaborative individual capable of navigating complex, high-stakes, and politically sensitive issues with tact.
