At Gemba, we pride ourselves in being the authority in Sport & Entertainment, and we are currently looking for a Senior Marketing Consultant to join our dynamic Sydney team.
This role, which is integral to our Sport and Entertainment Marketing Strategy team, will have you managing the development of commercial partnership strategy, creative planning and become a trusted senior advisor for our clients – some of biggest and most active brands in Australian sponsorship.
Being ‘passionate about sport and entertainment’ is NOT a good reason to apply for this job. We work in an exciting industry, but our job is about solving our clients business problems with world leading insight, intellectual capital and brilliant people. A solid understanding of the commercial structure of sport and entertainment is essential. A personal passion is optional.
We value a diverse team and would love to talk to applicants who may not be from an obvious background as long as they can demonstrate what alternate skills and expertise they offer and show that they are fast to learn a new industry.
If you have a strong passion for solving complex business problems through the lens of Sports and Entertainment partnerships, coupled with at least 5 years relevant commercial consulting, marketing or allied experience, then this will be worth the read.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Marketing Strategy, you will be responsible for building and managing client relationships whilst delivering projects that include sport and entertainment marketing plans, sponsorship strategies, asset planning, contract valuations, negotiation strategies and creative activation strategy.
In addition to existing client work you will contribute to the business development pipeline as well as assist in the development and evolution of Gemba’s proprietary intellectual capital.
You will analyse competitor activity, research reports, media and industry data to identify insights and opportunities for Gemba clients. The successful candidate will also be responsible for financial scoping of projects and the management of jobs through our financial and project management system.
About You
You will have an excellent understanding of marketing and business disciplines and processes. You will have demonstrated experience in managing marketing projects, writing and implementing marketing/brand plans and communication strategies at a high level of quality and accuracy.
Whilst relevant tertiary education will be looked upon favorability, more important is an ability to demonstrate a detailed understanding of the commercial side of partnership marketing. You may currently be working in a senior strategy role with an agency like us, you might be in the commercial or marketing teams of a rights holder or media or could be in more traditional management consultancy. Over the years we have also had success with early career lawyers and finance professionals who are looking for a change in career direction and want to apply their skills in commercial problem solving in an exciting new industry. What matters is your ability to break down a business problem, apply data and insight to find a solution and then sell this plan to senior clients with passion and conviction.
More specifics of the ideal candidate include:
- Experience in managing partnership marketing projects, from proposal to final delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Experience developing communications strategies and leverage plans for a brand’s sponsorship assets
- Excellent understanding of both quantitative and qualitative research methods and the appropriate uses for each approach
- Understanding of sponsorship as a marketing discipline and ability to help brands unlock its potential.
- A keen understanding of the Sport and/or Entertainment business landscape and how the key players in brands, rights holders, media and agencies interrelate
- Sound research skills and ability to synthesize information and draw out the insights relevant to clients
- Advanced PowerPoint, Word and Excel skills
This role has one direct report (also based in Sydney) who you will be responsible for guiding and developing. You will be joining a high performing team and you will need to be an independent self-starter and be willing to draw on the exceptional team of creative, account management and support staff to get the job done.
