About this role

This role will be a key member of the team, bringing significant industry experience and expertise to delivering high quality, market-leading advice on durability and materials on both infrastructure and buildings projects.

The role will require significant consulting experience in the specification of use of metals in construction metals, expert knowledge of welds and investigating weld failures, an understanding of the materials requirements to facilitate industry to transition to hydrogen as well as excellent interpersonal and project management skills.

What will I do?

  • Author or review technical reports, implementing the highest technical standards across projects through rigorous technical review, support, and delivery. Offer guidance and upskilling to other staff in your areas of expertise.
  • Represent Arup on Australian and International Standards Committees/Working Groups, leveraging specialized knowledge to contribute to the development of industry standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing analytical, creative, and conceptual thinking. Evaluate options, consider consequences, and make well-informed recommendations and decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate sustainability initiatives effectively, driving the development of standard documentation for the specification of design elements like metals and welding.
  • Act as an expert witness, offering advice to clients in cases of material failures. Negotiate agreements with clients, ensuring work is delivered to agreed budgets.

What will I bring?

  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications (preferably at master's degree level) in Materials Engineering or similar or in science, engineering with significant Materials Engineering expertise.
  • Detailed knowledge of requirements for specifying materials in construction;
  • Detailed knowledge of the durability of metals and how they degrade
  • Expertise in FE modelling and fracture mechanics testing and analysis.
  • Understanding of risks associated with steel elements installed in aggressive conditions, including risks for managing infrastructure elements located in PASS and ASS soils
