Under the direction of the Group GM the following will be described as job responsibilities of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is defined below.
About the role:
To be successful as a mechanical engineer, you are required to be highly creative individual with the ability to develop innovative solutions to our clients' problems and manage the engineering team to ensure timely and accurate completion of project job packs.
Attention to detail and the ability to communicate their technical ideas in a clear manner, both visually and verbally is a critical expectation of this role.
- Design systems and components that meet needs and requirements of the 4114:2020 Australian standards and ensure the delivery of a operational spray booth or Truflow product in line with the ethos of what was sold by the sales engineer.
- Design Leadership: Serve as the primary design lead ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
- Identify, pursue and gain specification to ensure the spray booth products and systems are correctly designed.
- Generate GA Drawings working with clients and sales engineers to achieve desired outcomes.
- Bill of Materials Development: Develop, manage, and optimize the BOM for every job ensuring completeness of drafting and drawings prior to being issued to the manufacturing team
- Produce clear and readable manufacturing drawings with the correct specification of materials and manufacture methodology to ensure parts are durable and fit for purpose.
- Work with and build strong relationships, particularly with sales engineers, engineering consultants, end users and system integrators.
- Manufacturing Job Packs: Check and QC all generate job packs. Ensure they are comprehensive and detailed enough for production team and fabrication staff to interpret.
- Design technical solutions that reduce cost to the business.
- Test and evaluate theoretical designs
- Fully utilize the VJS/CRM system as a communication, reporting, measurement and tracking tool to enhance productivity.
- Ensure project tracking and ultimately ensuring on time delivery of drawings to operational team and factory environment.
- Designing, manufacturing, and installing components that fulfill requirements.
- Program and develop CAD/CAM and CNC programs to support production
- Use and implement PDM, Solid works and integration software to suitably manage parts and components from the TRUFLOW library.
- Writing technical documentation for machine operators.
- Write SOP or operating procedures (documentation) where required to support any engineering, installation or manufacturing task.
- Meet time lines and report back to senior engineer with any changes or problems that may arise.
- Analyzing problems or deficiencies and developing solutions to resolve them.
Experience & Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor level degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
- Around 10 years of post graduation experience in mechanical engineering, with design experience on mechanical equipment (fans, modular buildings ect)
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks ideally ideally with with professional certification and significant experience with PDM systems.
- Demonstrated ability to develop BOMs.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely in cross-functional teams and demonstrated skills in supplier management.
- Licensed as a professional engineer.
- Experience working in the mechanical engineering field.
- Superior computer skills, with solid experience in CAD, CAM, and Solidworks programs.
- Ability to run simulations and analyze test data.
- Ability to write clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
- Highly analytical mind, with exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Major Tasks:
- Assisting the Production Team
- Support understanding and rectify engineering, production mistakes and assist understanding of missing information
- Understand and resolve material sourcing problems.
- Support improvements and change requests
- Support technical purchasing enquires
- Assisting the Install Team leader
- Support any changes or addition required parts
- Install questions relating to drawings provided
- re-issue to production missing parts
- Support change requests
- Assisting the Sales Team
- Check and QC technical selections made by sales engineers to ensure performance and buildability of sold equipment.
- Checking their designs against performance spec
- Check sales information provided on job and drawings made by sales engineers to define project requirements.
- Issue rapid ( smaller non-project jobs) to production.
- Assisting the Engineering Team
- Provide training and upskilling
- Support development of engineering team with training on software and processes.
- Schedule and manage engineering workload.
- Guide engineers where required
- Set and maintain the Solidworks.
- Complete jobs to assist engineering team schedule.
- Check all engeering jobs prior to being issued to manufacturing (QC).
- PDM plan + New Library
- Implement PDM
- Train engineers in the use of PDM
- Library and part number systemization.
- CNC Laser and Turret
- Understand and learn new software so you can train and lead the engineers, thus allowing them to program their own jobs.
- Set and maintain the new CAM software
Skills & Attributes required for role

Performance expectations
- Meet set KPI’s relating to engineering compliance and scheduled time frames.
- Meet and exceed monthly and yearly engineering quotas
- Support factory and reduce defects.
- Eliminate engineering errors before they arrive at production
- Under the direction of the General Manager, take responsibility for and develop a engineering plan to support the overall business and its goals for engineering improvement and product R&D.
- Conduct and communicate with employees and management professionally at all times
