About The Role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer, based in Adelaide, will be a core member of the Product Improvement team in Adelaide contributing to the continual improvement of the Chrysos PhotonAssay technology.
What You Will Do
- Lead the identification of opportunities for performance, safety and reliability improvements to PhotonAssay machines, with a particular focus on mechanical related issues.
- Use the Product Change Management Process to manage the continual improvement of mechanical aspects of existing PhotonAssay products.
- Manage, track and oversee the engineering portion of assigned Product Change Orders, meeting agreed timeframe, costs and performance with suitable documentation to enable successful implementation on each affected PhotonAssayTM system globally.
- Develop and oversee systems and processes which ensure that mechanical design of PhotonAssay machines are of high quality and comply with relevant worldwide regulations.
- Maintain detailed and accurate design records, and review drawings and documentation submitted by sub-contractors.
- Provide regular reports to leadership on the progress of product modifications (PCO report).
- Lead troubleshooting investigations of mechanical issues with existing PhotonAssayTM systems globally.
- Act as Technical Authority, having input to the strategic direction of the mechanical design, reviewing and signing-off designs of others.
- Display role model behaviour to Chrysos’ culture of safety and zero-harm.
- Mentor, and recommend relevant training and skills development for less experienced Mechanical Engineers within Chrysos.
- Collaborate with engineers within Product Improvement team.
- Engage closely with suppliers including our major contractor.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that products meet established standards and specifications.
- Identify areas for improvement for engineering processes and take a leading role in resolving these.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and incorporate relevant methodologies into the machinery design, safety, and compliance.
- Oversee and participate in testing activities to validate the effectiveness of product changes.
Who you are:
- A tertiary qualification in engineering, preferably mechanical or mechatronic engineering.
- At least 8 years’ experience in an engineering role.
- Experience with 3D parametric modelling software, such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
- Demonstrated excellence in overseeing the design and manufacture of complex products and collaborating with supply-chain partners.
- Experience designing equipment to relevant machine safety standards and legislation, such as AS4024, OSHA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical documentation and drawings, and functional specifications.
- Able and willing to travel both interstate and internationally (subject to Australian Government travel restrictions).
- Experience with AutoCAD for the creation of design drawings.
- Experience with automation system design, including selection and optimisation of sensors, actuators and control systems and associated human factors.
- Experience applying industry best-practice design principles to new industrial equipment.
- Experience with automation control systems.
- Experience in leading and/or mentoring engineers.
- Experience working in the mining industry or developing products for mining applications; or experience in material or sample handling applications such as laboratory automation, automotive machine design and food packaging.
- Experience with the specification of refrigeration and HVAC systems for sensitive equipment.
- Experience designing equipment containing radiation sources.
- Experience working hands on.
- Experience working with global teams and cultures.
