The Mt Cuthbert Group is a privately owned, Australian-based copper and gold producer with extensive exploration assets in NW Queensland. Mt Cuthbert Group acquired the Leichhardt Project in 2013, located at the remote Mount Cuthbert Mine, near the township of Kajabbi, NW QLD. In 2020, the group acquired the Rocklands site, approx. 17kms west of Cloncurry. This year will see further projects coming online for both Rocklands and Crusader (Mt Cuthbert).
Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for undertaking the day-to-day activities of the open pit mine planning and production to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of Design Scheduling and Drill & Blast services to maximize value of the Mt Cuthbert and Rocklands resources.
This "hands on" position is not for the faint-hearted. The Rocklands site is in the process of being re-stablished and this presents a career opportunity to be part of the start and to develop a new team.
You will be responsible for :
- On-going accurate and timely planning, modelling, analysis and short term to mid- term mine planning and drill and blast activities.
- Coordinate mine surveying, daily readings, reporting, geotechnical mapping, mine dewatering systems and monitoring blast hole implementation.
- Develop and oversee plans and sections for development, production drilling and blasting crews.
- Ensure that blast designs are based on suitable geological, geotechnical, and operational assessment of stability, risk, and economics.
- Provide a high level of input into and evaluation of reserve and resource estimates.
- Provide input and guidance into short, medium and long term mine planning tasks to help increase mine viability and realize other strategic targets.
- Assist the Tech Services Manager with providing mentoring, guidance and support to the engineering team including to graduates and more junior team members.
- Develop or bring forward, as appropriate, industry best practices and new technologies where appropriate.
- Assist prepare and review project proposals, studies, and technical reports.
- Liaise with contractors, and other stakeholders on a technical level and present reports, publications, and presentations in a professional manner.
- Assist Tech Services Manager in developing and implement strategies for cost reduction and optimization, with specific focus on mining operations.
To be successful you will need to have:
- Tertiary Qualification in Mining Engineering and or relevant territory qualifications
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in open pit mining operations
- Experience & competency using Trimble survey equipment (ideal but not essential)
- Have a strong commitment to safe working practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Extensive Surpac experience and blast software
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to plan projects and jobs, prioritize work and meet deadlines
