Job description

About us

At the South Australian Business Chamber we believe in the role of business in creating a vibrant, dynamic and sustainable society. As the independent, representative voice of employers and business owners in South Australia, we exist to create the best possible environment for them to succeed through knowledge, advice, connection and advocacy. With a proud history dating back to 1839, we are the oldest Chamber of Commerce in Australia, backing the job makers, risk takers, creators, innovators and entrepreneurs.

About the role

Are you ready to make a real impact in the South Australian business community? The South Australian Business Chamber is on the lookout for an experienced policy and advocacy professional to argue for business across a diverse range of portfolio areas.

As a key player reporting to the GM of Policy, Advocacy, and International Services, you'll be at the heart of our mission, working closely with our tight-knit, collaborative team to shape and drive our policy and advocacy agenda.

In this exciting role, you will:

  • Liaise directly with state decision-makers to advocate for policies that benefit our members and the South Australian business community.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members, government officials, industry leaders, and politicians and their staff.
  • Use your political nous and strategic thinking to advocate for the best outcomes for business.
  • Represent the Chamber on key committees and reference groups.
  • Prepare influential policy-focused content, including talking points, briefing notes and media releases.
  • Respond to government inquiries and reviews with well researched and analytical submissions.

This is more than just a job; it’s a chance to showcase your exceptional relationship-building, negotiation and writing skills to create a thriving business environment in South Australia. If you’re passionate, knowledgeable, and eager to drive positive change as part of a great team, we’d love to hear from you!

About you

You are an enthusiastic self-starter with a strong work ethic and thrive with limited direction. Your extensive experience in researching and writing for various purposes—submissions, discussion papers, reports, articles, and correspondence—is essential.

You excel at understanding legislation and translating complex ideas into clear, simple language. Networking is a natural strength, and you build strong relationships with a diverse range of people, including member businesses, government officials, industry leaders, and political representatives.

With political nous, well-formed judgment, strategic thinking, and strong negotiation skills, you are ready to make a significant impact in shaping the future of business in South Australia.

Culture and benefits

A career with the South Australian Business Chamber will offer you a rewarding experience. We want to ensure our employees feel valued, supported, and compensated. We do this by providing a range of employee benefits, including:

  • Career progression
  • Birthday Leave day
  • Ability to purchase an additional week’s leave
  • Flexible work practices
  • Novated lease arrangements for purchasing motor vehicles offering potential savings
  • Free and confidential counselling services for all the family
  • Discounted health insurance through Medibank
