Job description

There are few things more topical right now than ensuring Australia has a suitable supply of both social and affordable housing for those who need it. Government at all levels are focused on addressing this big social and economic problem and we need you to join the fight!

PowerHousing Australia is a membership-based organisation focused on creating meaningful impact and positive change to national housing affordability. Located in Deakin, they are a small team who band together to make a huge contribution.

This year brings a big plan of growth and achievement for PowerHousing, and at the forefront of that growth will be your opportunity to take on a senior role in the team.

What does that look like? I am glad you asked!

As the Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor you will be located on the ground in Canberra, providing expert data analysis, conducting in-depth research, and utilising expert skills to contribute to strategic policy recommendations as well as advocacy plan development and implementation.

You will do this through the undertaking of economic analysis of the housing market to develop primary analysis of the causes of housing stress and solutions to achieve housing affordability; conduct rigorous economic research and analysis to assess industry trends (including international housing trends), market dynamics, and policy implications; and collaborate across the sector, consult, engage, research and write specific bespoke reports and responses to Federal Government submissions as required.

With the Interim CEO operating out of Adelaide this role also provides you with the opportunity to build your own personal media profile as you step into the role of spokesperson as required.

Your success in this role will support the strong growth plans for this important organisation, setting you on a potential path for development and long-term tenure!

As you can see, this role has lots of promise. So, what are we looking for?

Apart from the highly-qualified skills of research, data analysis and policy advisory, we are looking for demonstrated expertise in interpreting complex economic data; undertaking qualitative and quantitative analysis, and generating actionable insights. This may come from your work directly in economics, or transition from a background in banking, finance, property development or government relations. Regardless, what you are is strategic while being detail orientated, able to compile complex and meaningful reports, comfortable facilitating high level executive discussions across the commercial and public sectors, and you understand exactly how to position the research in terms of the policy. You also bring prior experience and understanding of development, housing, community  housing, social services and/or peak bodies.

Personally, you bring energy and a tangible drive to move the housing agenda forward. This is underpinned by strong values and not status - those values are integrity, passion and a dedication to your members. You regularly ask yourself and the team 'how do we add value' and carry out your functions in a way that creates collaborative impact.

You are someone who naturally likes to lead others collaboratively and do so with both resilience and professionalism. This sector is not for the feint-hearted, so you are neither sensitive or precious when it comes to doing what needs to be done when. A a great team player, you find working in a small team environment rewarding and know when it is time to roll up your sleeves and get the work done together.

What's on offer?

The opportunity to create meaningful change in key area of focus for many Australians.
