About this role
You'll be joining the largest public health system in Australia and contribute to a world-class health system in NSW.

An exciting opportunity to join the team in HIV & STI policy, Centre for Population Health.

Lead with ambitious strategies and operating in a high-pressured environment as this role contributes to the NSW response in relation to HIV and STIs.

The team is looking for a results driven team member who can develop and support the implementation of best practice policies, programs, projects.

You need to be agile and responsive to emerging evidence, including driving practice change across NSW Health. You will need to work with partner organisations while managing views and interests of stakeholder groups across a wide range of issues including a consideration of regulatory aspects, balancing individual, community, clinical and sector interests while dealing with sensitive issues such as injecting drug use and sexual practice.

Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $120,859 - $133,183 p.a. plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

Where you'll be working
The Centre for Population Health aims to promote health and to prevent morbidity and mortality caused by modifiable risk factors. Prevention is an essential and effective foundation in the delivery of high value health care. The CPH portfolio encompasses: Strategy, performance and policy of hepatitis B and C; sexually transmissible infections including HIV; tobacco; and healthy eating and active living to reduce lifestyle related chronic disease. The strategies used to address these issues include state-wide policy and planning, legislation and regulation, program development alignment between clinical, operational, strategic direction resource allocation, performance monitoring, research and evaluation.

Programs and services funded by the CPH are delivered in government, non-government, community and clinical settings. The CPH approach is characterised by a focus on evidence-informed programmatic and system-level interventions that improve health, reduce health inequity, create healthy environments, promote community action, enable personal health-seeking and recognise the social determinants of good health.

What you'll be doing 

  • Leading, undertaking policy and program development, review and evaluation of projects for the NSW Health Service. This will require you to provide advice and support to Population and Public Health, senior executives, and staff across the NSW Health Service.
  • You will need the skills and experience to prepare high quality written advice in the form of reports, briefs, policy, discussion papers, or circulars to inform, respond to requests, or initiate consideration of new policy initiatives.
  • High level communication skills are key to enable you to liaise, communicate, and consult internally and externally to health.
  • A high interest and skills in quantitative and qualitative research to address policy issues and inform policy development.
  • Outcomes are a key part of this role including evaluating new policy approaches, including undertaking cost-benefit analyses and impact assessment, in order to provide sound strategic advice on their potential for application within NSW Health and achievement of Ministry and Government objectives.  


About you 
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with: 

  • Substantial experience in the provision of policy advice in a complex and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of policies and legislation impacting on chronic and communicable disease prevention with a focus on HIV and STI’s.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in undertaking all stages of the policy cycle (development, implementation and review).
