The purpose of this position is to support the implementation and embedding of the enhanced intake and assessment approach in the Regional Intake Service, including change management processes for intake staff to transition to the new ways of working. The position will work collaboratively with key internal and external partners to support the establishment of enduring and productive partnerships with intake staff, government and non-government sectors and the community to ensure the ongoing effective operation of quality intake services.
The role of the Senior Practitioner is responsible for providing leadership, specialist advice and guidance and professional development, including leading and participating in learning circles in intake services and state-wide, to support intake staff to develop capability and ensure high quality service delivery that respects the culture and context of children and families subject to an intake.
Key duties and responsibilities:
The Senior Practitioners key responsibilities are:
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the quality of intake services and improve intake knowledge, skills and expertise across the State.
- Support and manage case support workers and other intake staff as required.
- Ensure that intake service delivery is consistent with departmental policies and procedures, statutory responsibilities, departmental objectives and current trends.
- Develop and implement systems, processes and strategies linked to legislative, policy and practice standards, to enhance and maintain the quality of intake service delivery.
- Provide direct supervision, decisions and guidance for allocated complex child protection matters.
- Establish formal mentoring relationships with Senior Team Leaders and key staff in order to build capability, skills and knowledge in child protection service delivery particularly in triaging, assessment and decision-making for complex matters.
- Actively participate as a member of the management team and in quality assurance reviews of the intake service.
- Provide authoritative advice on child protection policy, legislation and practice to relevant intake service staff.
- Provide expert advice and decisions on complex matters to assist in the coordination of appropriate client services, decision making by courts, and the formulation and implementation of recommendations by Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) teams.
- Provide accurate advice to senior managers on professional child protection practice issues, child and family needs and service delivery responses within the intake service.
