An exciting opportunity is currently available for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to be developed to lead our Product Design team as part of our succession planning strategy.
Whilst playing an integral role in the delivery and innovation of our current and future products, you will represent the company in technical presentations, with our overseas customers and other industry bodies.
You will assist with the design/innovation of a variety of products from concept through to production. This position is a hands-on role. Your ability to design with Solid Works/ Catia and to problem solve are vital to this position.
In collaboration with the engineering group you will develop detailed designs and be a vital team member during the product introduction cycle.
The role will include:
- Participate in product engineering activities to develop new products on time & to budget
- Ensure all functional and mechanical specifications of new products meet customer specifications
- Monitor output of new product development team to ensure adequate skills for MTM product range & APQP process compliance
- Benchmark current market environment and guide the development of new products
- Monitor department workload and recommend appropriate budgets & manning
- Provide technical assistance to Project Teams where required
- Establish Design dept budget requirements for all new product development projects
- Work with various departments and provide technical assistance to resolve issues
- Lead MTM strategic direction / vision for Innovative product development & advanced engineering
- Present & represent MTM in a professional manner to key customers and other industry bodies
- Lead VA/VE activities
- Ensure ongoing compliance to IATF16949 & other Customer Specific Requirements
- Lead MTM technical / engineering & problem-solving responses to customer issues
- Review customer quotations and lead MTM technical responses
The successful applicant will have:
- A degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on design
- A good understanding of plastic injection moulding and tooling
- CAD ability –Solidworks a must, and Catia an advantage
- Highly developed problem solving skills
- Extensive and demonstrable experience with Design for manufacture principles
- Proven ability in product development from concept through to production ready design.
- Understanding of common polymer fabrication / prototyping techniques
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills, teamwork and ability to take initiative
5 years minimum engineering experience utilising the above skills is preferred.
