About this part of our organisation:
As part of the Global group, our Zinc Assets include multiple & geographically dispersed operations, including underground and open pit mines, processing plants, refineries, smelters and port facilities. Our operations span across Australia, Asia, both North and South American continents and Europe.
Brisbane is home to one of our corporate offices which is where this role is based.
About your new position:
As part of the Glencore Zinc Capital Studies and Projects Team, you will be involved in a variety of Projects at various stages of study from Concept level to Feasibility, located mainly in Australia, Asia and North America.
As a Senior - Project Geologist you will primarily assess, review, and implement all aspects of geological work in line with the study level requirements, as defined by our Capital Management Framework, collaborating with other disciplines.
You will also take part in project development, optimisation, and prioritisation to align with corporate short to medium growth requirements.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical leadership for regional teams including review, development and maintenance of best practice technical systems and protocols,
- Defining and optimising required drilling/data collection for geology, geotechnical, hydrogeology and metallurgy, working with SMEs across other disciplines to maximise value (data collected) for drilling expenditure,
- Working with exploration and geology on the ground to define and control drilling, logging, sampling, and assay budgets,
- Report on key KPI’s, cost and schedule on assigned projects to the project team,
- Ensuring appropriate resourcing for all aspects of drill programs,
- Ensuring all permitting, drilling contracts and preparation is completed to meet study timelines,
- Ensure the technical reliability and quality of geological deliverables are aligned with Glencore technical standards,
- Engaging with the global and regional technical services teams or consultants to ensure timely updates of resource estimations, structural models, lithological models etc.
- Contribute to the development of new standards and work methods as part of the group process optimisations,
- Complete due diligence work, internal and external, including data validation and process review, as requested,
- Regular site visits are expected as assigned projects require (up to 30% of time),
- Support internal technical and toll gate reviews for operations and projects,
- Assist with investigation and implementation of new mining and geology related technology across our operations.
 
Our expectations of you:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Geology; Post-graduate degree, an asset,
- Approximately 10 years’ experience in near-mine mineral exploration and/or advanced projects,
- Excellent understanding of drilling methods and drilling program implementation, both underground and surface,
- Possess a thorough understanding of a variety of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes,
- Understanding of resource estimation processes,
- A demonstrated commitment to health, safety, environment, and community,
- Strong communication, organisational, interpersonal skills, writing skills and well-developed sense of work prioritisation,
- Self-motivated and possesses leadership abilities,
- Proficient with Leapfrog, GIS, and database management,
- High cultural intelligence and the ability to work effectively with professionals from all backgrounds,
- Registered into professional Geoscience organisation in Australia,
