Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is an independent, non-profit organisation with its head office located near North Sydney. We are the world’s largest treatment and research centre with a single focus on melanoma, and our mission is to reach zero deaths from melanoma this decade.

The Translational Research Laboratory of MIA is seeking an all-around experienced laboratory Senior Research Assistant preferably with a background in cancer or immunology research, to work in a PC2 laboratory environment. We require an individual with solid work experience with in vivo models, histology, and molecular biology in a research setting. Additional experience in cell/tissue culture, multiplex immunohistochemistry, CyTOF and/or a willingness to learn additional techniques a plus. The position will be responsible for performing experimental procedures including but not limited to animal handling and associated experimental research procedures, preparation of patient and animal samples for histochemistry and RNA/DNA extractions. The candidate must possess the ability to perform qualitative assessments with sufficient knowledge to troubleshoot protocols and adhere to strict quality controls.

The successful applicant will form part of the Translational Research Laboratory of the Melanoma Institute Australia, based at The University of Sydney Camperdown campus. The research of the team spans areas such as primary melanoma diagnosis, melanoma biology, biomarkers of resistance to systemic therapies in advanced disease, the Personalised Immunotherapy Program, and translational neoadjuvant studies. This is a full-time position. Applications that do not address the selection criteria will not be processed.

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a research-related, biological science field.
  • Demonstrated skills in in vivo models and experimental animal handling
  • Experience with preparation of tissue and histological procedures
  • Experience with extracting DNA and RNA from FFPE and FF tissue
  • Knowledge of cancer biology and/or immunology preferred
  • Familiarity with cell/tissue culture or CyTOF a plus
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to multitask
  • Desire to gain additional skills that contribute toward research output
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy of results
