Fixed Term Parental Leave Position until June 2024

Part-Time at 45.6 hours per fortnight (0.6 EFT)

Grade 3 Allied Health Professional (or equivalent)

The Department

Alfred Health’s Allied Health comprises a number of Allied Health disciplines that provide patient-centred care across all clinical programs that operate at Alfred Health. The Allied Health team includes clinicians from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Speech Pathology, Social Work, Nutrition and Psychology (including Neuropsychology) and are supported by Allied Health Assistants. The Allied Health team works closely with the Nursing and Medical teams to provide a comprehensive and timely service to both patients and outpatients.

The SPEAK (Specialist Education And Knowledge) Project was established following Alfred Health’s receipt of an Information, Linkages and Capacity (ILC) Building Program grant managed by the Department of Social Services. The aim of the SPEAK Project is to build capability in the health workforce and improve processes to meet the healthcare needs of people with disability, particularly those with intellectual disability, communication disability/communication support needs and those who are autistic.

The Position Summary

The Senior Research Assistant will work as a member of the SPEAK Project Team and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the SPEAK Project. The incumbent will play a role in supporting the implementation, review and reporting of the SPEAK Project evaluation across Alfred Health and South West Healthcare. Evaluation activities will be overseen by the Principal Investigator and developed and reviewed in conjunction with the SPEAK Project Evaluation Advisory Group and consumers with lived experience of disability.
Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Project Lead, the Senior Research Assistant will undertake a variety of functions, including supporting the review of research processes and protocols, development of data forms and source documents; gathering and interpreting data (including file audits, focus groups, interviews and surveys); maintain research databases and data quality; draft preparation of reports and tables; and contribute to meetings. In addition to adhering to AHPRA code of conduct (as relevant), the Senior Research Assistant will ensure that all required activities and procedures related to the research, including the storage of data, are undertaken in accordance with the protocol and the principles of the International Conference of Harmonisation Good Clinical Practise Guidelines (ICH/GCP), NHMRC Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and ethics standards, and relevant Australian laws and regulations; Privacy Act 1988 Sections 95 and 95A.
Supervision and appropriate training will be provided for this position. Once trained, the incumbent will be expected to be responsible for day-to-day time management and organisation with minimal supervision. The role may require travel across all Alfred Health and South West Health campuses and the local community.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a health or disability field with experience working in a health or disability environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination and conduct of clinical research study activities (including ethics applications, documentation, recruitment and study management)
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, collate and analyse information from a range of data sources accurately and reliably, adhering to set protocols and principles

Desirable 

  • Previous experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods & analysis
  • Experience engaging with people with disability and their support people, with the ability to show understanding of the challenges they face
