Senior Resource Geologist

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking an experienced Senior Geologist: Resource to join the Regional Resource Geology Group. Reporting to the Superintendent: Resource Geology, you will be responsible for generating, maintaining, and reviewing mineral inventory and Mineral Resource models for the Agnew Gold Mine operations and projects. The successful incumbent may also be required to manage geological data and quality assurance systems.

This role is offered on a standard 5 day working week while in Perth. The successful incumbent will be expected to travel to site on a regular basis and fit in to FIFO rosters at times.

• Develop and implement strategies to identify and maximize new opportunities for the operation through improved evaluation methodologies;
• Provide resource modelling skills and develop appropriate resource models for mines and exploration projects;
• Prepare and complete all reporting requirements with the appropriate level of detail within agreed timeframes;
• Maintain and align staff with a continuous improvement program that ensures the Resource estimation practices, procedures, guidelines, site standard software and peer review processes are effective, current and in line with industry best practice standards;
• Comply with external audits and industry best practice by ensuring that all prepared models meet the requirements of SAMREC, SEC (S-K 1300) and SOX standards;
• Maintain a strong involvement with the QA/QC function to ensure the quality of the data supporting the Resource models;
• Demonstrate an understanding of the financial implications and impacts of Resource model quality on mining and exploration decisions, by producing high quality, accurate resource models in a timely manner;
• Audit and review mine and exploration models as part of a peer review process and provide appropriate inputs to improve quality of estimation;
• Demonstrate a strong focus on model reconciliation with an ability to interrogate the causes of changes to models and demonstrate the impact on the resulting model.

• Bachelor of Science in Geology or related discipline
• Demonstrated exposure in combined Mine, Exploration or Project Geology
• Extensive experience as a Senior Resource Geologist in the relevant gold mining and exploration industry
• Proven geological interpretation skills with the ability to apply this to resource estimation
• Experience with Ordinary Kriging and estimation quality optimization
• Competency with linear estimation, recoverable estimation, and simulation techniques with ability to decide on and apply the most appropriate methods
• Understanding of QA/QC procedures, drilling and sampling practices, standard gold industry laboratory plus analytical methods
• Highly developed skills with Microsoft Office, Datamine and geostatistical software especially Supervisor and Isatis
