The Opportunity?
Currently our Geology Service Department has a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geologist to join our Head Office located in Subiaco.
Reporting to the General Manager of the department, this role is responsible for managing technical geology programs, to support projects for the Discovery, Growth or Mining teams with the overarching objective of improving geological understanding, leading to high quality 3D geological models.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage geological programs, such as geological mapping (underground, in open pits and at surface) and diamond drill core relogging. This includes collection of geological data, collation and interpretation of data and generating maps and 3D geological models incorporating the geological understanding.
- Generate presentations that clearly communicate geological understanding and the implications for exploration targeting and constraints on resource delineation.
- Provide leadership, geological training and coaching to geologists from the various site teams.
- Coordinate effectively with other members of the Geology Service Team to generate the best deliverables to the site teams.
- Lead and/or support prospectivity analysis programs at regional to country scale by managing the process from data compilation, interpretation and target delineation.
- Manage consultants and contractors involved with geology projects from time to time.
- QAQC management and validation of drill logging data.
- Provide timely and relevant information as requested by the General Manager.
- Deliver periodic progress reports on time and in the correct format.
- Identify specific areas for cost improvement and ensure the development and implementation of action plans to achieve these gains.

Your demonstrated passion for exceeding industry 'best-practice' in all geological and environmental tasks, along with a proactive attitude to making a difference, will see you as a much-valued member of the Northern Star Geology Service Department.
Key skills, experience & attributes include:
- Hold a tertiary post-graduate qualification in geoscience from a recognised institution.
- Ideally be a member of an accredited professional organisation (e.g. AusIMM, AIG).
- Experienced in remote exploration, you have five-plus years of relevant experience in the mining industry.
- A thorough demonstrated knowledge of structural geological mapping, including underground, in open pit and field mapping.
- Possess an expert working knowledge of volcanic and sedimentary litho-stratigraphy, geochemistry, alteration assemblages, drilling and sampling techniques, as well as orogenic and reduced intrusion related gold deposits.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead a team and drive successful outcomes.
- Experience in delivering prospectivity analysis at regional to country scale.
- Proficient computer & systems skills- Microsoft Office, GIS (Arcview), 3D package/s (Datamine and Leapfrog) & Database (Acquire).
- Flexible and adaptable at dealing with change; across procedures, practices & systems etc.
- Possess a sound understanding of tenement management and the relevant legislation, as well as the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
- The ability to build collaborative & functional relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders to best achieve department and business objectives and deliverables.
