More information about our HW benefits can be viewed here:About the role and teamWe have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Senior Risk and Compliance Advisor to join our Legal Excellence and Risk section within our Corporate Services team.The primary focus of this role is to review contracts and manage operational risk, and to support the Risk Manager, the General Counsel and the Legal Excellence and Risk (LER) team with the implementation of the firm’s legal excellence and risk management framework.Key responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • assisting to identify, describe and estimate the risks (both new and existing) affecting the firm;
  • reviewing compliance by legal teams with the firm’s legal excellence and risk management policies and procedures, including by conducting regular file audits and reporting back to firm management and the Risk Committee on the key results and themes;
  • working with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) (and others in the LER Team as required) to manage the firm’s general (non-PI) insurance policies and ensuring each policy is reviewed (to consider the terms of the various policies and the extent of coverage) and renewed annually;
  • assisting the General Counsel (GC) when required with the management, review and renewal of the firm’s PI insurance policies and broker arrangements;
  • implementing and maintaining an appropriate system to capture the firm’s insurance renewals, policy information and nuances;
  • reviewing directorship applications and documents, including advising the GC, liaising with the relevant applicant and managing issues that may arise;
  • reviewing clients’ terms of engagement for external legal suppliers and other third party contracts. In particular, assessing the firm’s compliance requirements and coordinating these requirements with partners and firm management;
  • managing legal and operation issues relating to tenders including insurance related queries;
  • assisting other members of the LER Team to manage the firm’s engagement agreements, including updating the appointment terms to ensure compliance with the disclosure obligations of the relevant legal profession legislation and providing or assisting with training as required;
  • assisting the Risk Manager and the GC with general day to day risk management activities, such as conflict assessment and management and management of the firm’s privacy obligations, the preparation and presentation of risk management and compliance training, policy creation, and the creation and maintenance of risk management registers;
  • assisting the Risk Manager with the conduct of privacy impact assessments (PIAs);
  • Working with the Information Security Manager (and other members of the LER Team) to develop and maintain the firm’s cyber security risk management framework and assisting in managing the firm’s response to any cyber security incidents; and
  • ensuring continuous review and improvement of operational risk policies and procedures.
Skills and experienceWe are keen to hear from candidates with the following skills and experience:
  • risk and compliance experience gained in either private practice (legal or accounting) or an in-house corporate role;
  • risk management, compliance or auditing qualifications or experience would be advantageous;
  • legal qualification and experience is preferable;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • highly organised, able to work under pressure to strict deadlines and maintain strong attention to detail;
  • the ability to show initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team; and
  • the ability to build strong working relationships with people at all levels.
