How will I help?

As a Senior Risk Manager, you will play a leadership role in implementing and managing risk management and monitoring obligations in Financial Markets (FM), supporting consistent implementation, and embedding of risk management framework, policies and controls in the FM Line of Business with a focus on Digital and Customer Platforms (DCP), and Systematic Trading, Analytics and Quants (STAQ) within Financial Markets

The businesses comprise Digital FX sales, Digital platforms, Data Analytics, Digital Execution, Systemic Trading Research & Development and Quantitative Analytics capabilities for the Financial Markets Business. You will be responsible for partnering with key stakeholders on all matters risk and control, responsible for implementation of solutions to risk and control problems.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting FM, DCP and STAQ leadership in the supervision, monitoring and management (within appetite) of a number of non-financial risks, including operational and compliance risks and to drive a strong, embedded risk culture that optimises risk / reward and helps achieve efficient business objectives.
  • Protecting the business by assisting the business in carrying out effective risk practices and to continuously improve them.
  • Being responsible for ensuring that the Risk and Compliance Matrix (RCM) process is managed and maintained in line with WBC's 3 Lines of Defence frameworks and policies
  • Reporting to the senior FM leadership team on the management of Operational and Compliance Risk across the DCP and STAQ businesses.
  • As part of a team of risk professionals, ensure the divisional and business operations and risk management practices align to the frameworks, policies, risk strategy and appetite of the Group, and the regulatory obligations are managed.
  • Providing risk expertise to the business in the identification, assessment, and actioning of risk and controls issues to drive a strong risk and controls culture that helps achieve business objectives.
  • Supporting the proactive and effective monitoring, management and reporting of current and emerging risks and facilitate a strong risk culture, risk awareness and ownership of risk throughout the business.

What do I need?

The ideal candidate will have extensive operational risk, compliance management experience and knowledge in the same or another business unit within the Group or another financial services organisation or a consulting, audit firm with financial services experience. Significant specific business, operations experience in a relevant area of the same or another financial services organisation. Relevant industry qualifications in risk, compliance or business-related. Advanced Microsoft Office skills and significant experience in using these and other tools to assist the business in identifying, analysing and documenting their risks.

Experience working in Financial Markets and working with Quantitative analytics teams as well as an understanding of data driven, analytic and systematic financial markets trading and sales processes - including algorithmic and systematic trading, electronic pricing and associated risks and controls. Experience working with Data and analytics - data flows, access to data, use of data, and data risk management and associated risk and control frameworks and Model Risk Management, User Managed and User Developed Applications and associated risk and control frameworks approaches to risks and controls as well as the implementation of other analytic and systematic processes across financial markets trading and sales activities - and associated risk and control frameworks and automation of processes and delivery both for client and internal facing application, and associated risks and controls.

You will have commercial acumen, exceptional relationship building, teamwork and negotiation skills, be proactive, with a strong customer and outcomes focus. The ability to think strategically, be innovative as well as being able to achieve objectives in a changing environment.

Your awareness and understanding of digital and systematic trading, data analytics and quantitative analytics, demonstrable experience of influencing senior business leadership teams, strategic thinking and prioritisation and of translating the complex into the simple and communicating with passion, will see you succeed in this role.
